I wouldn't mind seeing Apocalypse Now and The Last Emperor with the correct theatrical aspect ratio.

True, although it was on Milos's mind, and to some degree on Peter Shaffer's (the jealousy starts when he finds out the opera singer had an affair with Mozart), but boobies JUST AREN'T THE POINT of the sheet-music scene!!
It's true that Constanza's desperate enough to do anything, and Salieri throughout the movie is trying to be good and Catholic and take cold showers for his "sacred" music...But in the theatrical, when he walks away from the sheet music without a word and declares war, we know what's on his mind--The full scene tried to intend the quick "temptation" as just another bit of divine insult to injury, but it's just too darn distracting.

(And yes, we're getting the DC on the Blu, because that's the version Warner happened to have hi-def mastered, and because the Director Wanted It That Way....Any chance we can go over and beat him up?

I'll throw my vote in for Apocalypse Now with seamless branching for all versions.

By the way, why aren't the studios making better use of seamless branching?

I agree. I regretted trading in my original dvd for the directors cut.

I'll agree that the theatrical cut was more direct in that, but if there is one good thing that this subplot does, it gives the moment between them at the end of the film and her "I'd show you the door, but I'm afraid we have no servants to show you out." line a whole new meaning. Kind of like how the inclusion of Salieri screwing with Mozart and him at the lords house playing for his dogs gives the scene with his father a whole new meaning. THAT was definitely an improvement. It pays off the royal position plotline and it makes Mozart's financial situation and him clashing with the Emperor and his father more dire, not to mention the fact that it shows us how Mozart got the champagne bottle. Rather than just having Salieri say that he'll ruin Mozart and have ten minutes of Mozart and his family partying, you actually see him lying to the Emperor about him. It's the old rule of "show, not tell".

But even though it's technically superior from a storytelling perspective, I still miss the "I will RUIN...your incarnation." since the way it was delivered was so chilling.

I also like the added moments of Salieri praying, and how desperate he is to feel God.

Hancock. I hated the theatrical version. Before it's release I kept reading about how it was being cut down from 2+ hrs to something like 98 minutes and reshoots at the last minute to get a PG-13 rating. I really liked the idea of the movie - just hated the execution and I think it was because it was butchered for a more family-friendly rating.

Besides, that scene was lifted verbatim from the play, so we can hardly blame Milos for it. I credit Milos for taking it out in the first place, as he said it weakened Salieri's character.

Just like the "expanded" version of Dances With Wolves, which Costner later derided as a "marketing thing", and Friedkin's woeful expanded version of The Exorcist that Friedkin doesn't even support, Milos Forman went along with the "Special Edition" of Amadeus as more of a financial enterprise. I don't think its fair to blame him for allowing the alternate version.

Well, it looks like we're only getting the director's cut after all.

I've said all I wanted to say about AMADEUS, and despite the theatrical cut not being included in it, I'm still going to buy it and it is my most anticipated Blu after the PLANET OF THE APES series.

I dunno. I'm usually a bit passive about director's cuts and have yet to see one that truly ****s up the original (and I'm including the STAR WARS trilogy. I only ever saw the original 77 version once or twice when I was really young, so to me Greedo always shot first. And even that I always found to be such a non-issue. Don't start sending me hate mail or begin a flame war with me. I just didn't see what the problem was.), so I'm fine with it.

I'd prefer a choice between two versions, but I'll take what I can get.
