To finish my theater room, get a new tv stand for my bedroom and mount the tv on the wall, and a new power conditioner for my living room

Plus all the reviews I've read on this system give it good ratings.
My reasoning is this: I too started with an HTIB and believe me, it was good FOR A WHILE, then you want to move on to bigger and better things. I don't know how much you are willing to spend on this Panasonic System, but i think it averages at about $700. What I am trying to say is for $700 you can get much better equipment. You say you already have a PS3 right? Start out with a good reciever, and good front three. The folks here on this site help people all the time on choosing which equipment is right for them.

Just my opinion, but i am sure alot of the people on here will agree. I wish someone had told me this before i went out and bought my HTIB. Then i would have put those $1200 towards a better system.

My friend has a PS3, no HDTV, and no blu-rays (nor does he want any) but anyways..... he loves to jam to music, play guitar etc....

anyways....

He got a samsung/Panasonic/something HTIB that looks like the crappiest setup I've ever seen.... built in DVD player etc.... and it sounds like absolute crap..... it doesn't do any HD audio (not that he needs it) and it cost him $200

Thing is.... "He loves it"

So that's all that really matters

Kissing the Bose goodbye even though it's been a great system for my first home theater.

(Before Christmas plans)
Marantz SR5001
Polk RTi A7's
Polk CSi A6
and probably 4 Polk Monitor 50's for surrounds
eD sub

Then after tax rebate time I'm either doing a Samsung 67" LED DLP 1080p or going projection. 100" to start so I'll have room to upgrade later.

I have already checked this out at Circuit City and it rocks. Great sound and picture.
You can do so much better...

If money was no object I would get a 4 ohm home theater amp with Totem Wind speakers.

Velodyne makes good subs, but they're overpriced in my opinion. You can do a lot better for the money.

When my home theater designer asked me in 2005 if I wanted to run cable for a projector, I should have said, "yes." That is my one regret (now). At the time there were a lot of factors that made me figure that I wouldn't want a projector.

My home theater room is combined in an open setup with a game room and future bar. Wanting to use the screen for both movies, sports, and other things meant having varying degrees of lighting in the room. At the time, I never considered installing a projector screen that would drop down in front of the widescreen TV. Doing so would have given me a lot of versatility moving forward.

However, I read in the most recent edition of Electronic Gear (I think that's the name) that there are several wireless HD video senders that are currently in development which may eliminate the need to wire a projector fully through to my gear. It sounds like I'll need to wait a couple of generations though, because the maximum video resolution appeared to be 720p / 1080i. Each relay unit used HDMI connectors, but I'm not sure if their 1.3a.

I guess my other regret was not buying a Yamaha receiver with HDMI inputs when I picked my HTR-5960 in early 2006. I knew at that point I would be getting a PS3 as the central hub for my home theater room, but I didn't have any information on the new lossless audio codecs, including the HDMI requirements for digital signal transmission. My Yamaha receiver retailed for $549, and had 100 watts x 7 without HDMI switching. The next step up, the HTR-5990, retailed for $949 and included HDMI 1.1 switching, but it didn't have iPod or HD Radio connectivity, which mine does.

Had I known about the need for HDMI with the upcoming lossless audio codecs, I would have jumped on it. I love my receiver, but I do need to upgrade it for one with HDMI switching. It should also have on-board decoding for future use as well.

Aargh. I'll probably pick up a Yamaha 663 for now, and eventually use it as a pre-processor with a separate multichannel amp.

what's your set up like now that prevents you from running a cable? do you have a dropped ceiling? or is it just the general lighting and layout that makes you think a projector isn't right for the room?

ahh just wondering. I just saw all the chairs and the screen and thought no way. If that was mine, people would be sitting on the floor before I would pair that huge screen with any htib, but that's me. I still love it either way

I hear you about the cable. I'm working on finishing my basement and the TV portion will be a multi-purpose room, mainly for movies and games, but I could see it turning into other uses as well.

I actually had the drywall up and figured on getting a big screen TV, but after reading the forums, I decided to rough in an HDMI cable (see my sig for HT Thread). That was probably one of the best choices I made, sure I had to spend an entire day removing sheetrock, running the cable and replacing the sheets, but in the end, it was worth it.

I take it you sheetrocked your ceiling too?

I have a Yamaha receiver and love it, but it doesn't have HDMI either. I cannot remember which version it is, but it can do DTS and 6.1, but it only has coax or optical for sound and component for video. So right now I just have my PS3 hooked up directly to my TV via HDMI and have a separate optical cable running to the receiver. oh well...

That will all change once my ultimate basement rennovation is complete! btw... I'm putting in a wet bar too!

to be honest, i actually tend to agree with you killat0n (nice avatar by the way - i would really like a real system but i had no blu ray player yet, no surround system to transfer to the room, and i had spent all my research time available on the screen and projector...

it was wednesday and the opening weekend of the NFL games were coming so i panicked a bit and took the easy way out...it was a cheap and easy solution to bridge the gap until i can get a real system together...

for now, i'm happy with it - pretty much watching anything in there is an experience since the other room we had for movies was a JVC 52" projection...

i would bet by the end of the NFL season, i'll start to look to put together a new system and sell this one...

See now that's an awesome response I completely understand where you're coming from.

And I'm sure everyone who see's my sig immediately thinks I'm an idiot because I have Bose. But at the time I didn't know any better and even to this day I feel I got a great deal on it and I think it sounds great. And when I put it on ebay in a few weeks I'll end up making probably $300-$500 profit from what I payed and put together something waaaay better.
