Out of all the PS3's I've owned, I didn't buy it for the games because I lost interest in gaming but instead I used it for WiFi to download movie & game trailers. I said game trailers because I'm still aiming to be a gamer again. In the next year, I wanna get Street Fighter IV and FFXIII

I will never understand those that say I got a stand alone because I didn't want to play games.. it makes no sense at all. It sounds as if they think someone is going to make fun of them or laugh at them for having a PS3 that does the playing of their blu ray movies.

Having a media center means that I can view all my family pictures, family videos, listen to all my music, etc from my computer that streams/beams it directly to my PS3 and on to my TV display. Media Center is also like a video on demand center if you rip your movies on to the computer. No need to put a disc in the drive, just select from menu. It is like merging your computer with your TV and having access to everything from your TV remote/TV Screen.

Media Center means no more worrying about kids inserting a Disc into your expensive Blu Ray player with a drink spilled on it or jaming the disc in or anything like that. They just selct a movie / show from the menu and play it.
how does having it as media center prevent anyone from shoving a disc into the ps3's drive? i cant imagine you have zero dvd's, cd's or other random discs lying around that a kid, or adult, could try shoving into the ps3...

With the media center you can put all your discs up except blu's.. The BLU's are always out or reach anyways and can't be ripped. But all the kids movies which are on DVD anyways, can be ripped and made availble to the kids without them needing to ask for the discs or them inserting them. If your movie is on the menu, why would you need the disc again? You can put it up for good, no one needs it for anything so it isn't lying around anymore.

I am not talking about babies.. just kids that know what they want to watch but may not always take enough care when inserting discs. Once their shows are on the menu and they know how to select them. They will continue to do so.

It also saves wear and tear on your player and discs not having to insert discs for many of your movies you watch on it.

Hahahaha. Yep she is awesome! True, you can't do that with a standalone! I love my PS3 too! It rocks as a gaming machine and media center! Plus, like you said, we can watch videos of Alizée. Always a plus in my book!
