Can't believe this classic did'nt get even one Oscar nomination. But Gran Torino did'nt either.

well I guess I was the OP for a few hours at least.
I'll always know in my heart that I was the original poster on bd.com of the news that "Once Upon A Time In America" was coming to blu-ray

My thoughts exactly. I still have my copy of HAMLET that I opened before word of mouth got out. Still not excited to watch it at all.

This needs to be put out on 2 50GB discs honestly. I don't mind getting up to switch discs for an intermission.

Studio buffoonery was the reason of course.

from IMDB-

- Sergio Leone was contracted to deliver a film that would run for 2 hours and 45 minutes. His final cut was nearly 4 hours long. The American distributors reacted by excising an hour from the running time (though Leone's intended cut was seen in its entirety in Europe).

- A few days before the film's premier in 1984, Treat Williams found out the two-hour version, not the four-hour version, would be shown in theaters. He was heard to have said that no one would understand the movie in the shortened version. Indeed, the film did not do well at theaters and was shut out of the Oscars and received no nominations. When the video and DVD versions were released in the original four-hour versions, the film ultimately found commercial and critical success.

- The U.S. distributor reportedly failed to file the proper paperwork so that Ennio Morricone's score, regarded as one of his best, could be put up for nomination for an Academy Award.

Same here, as 'West' is one of my top five favorite movies. However 'America' is one of my top fifteen, so I am just as ecstatic.

And btw, also one of my favorite posters too.

This one below is pretty good also, though spoilerish.

except many people are already complaining that they should not put the extras on the same disc because of worries about PQ being negatively effected.
guess we'll see when it comes out.

I am happy to see this is being released but sadly I dont think we will see a decent blu ray disc on this seeing the past attempts to put long movies on a single disc especially with this, It doesnt say anywhere that there will be a restoration so what can we expect?

Why so skimpy on extras too? Only one commentary and making of??

But it must surely beat hands-down the DVD version with the movie on one disc....Think this movie will be good on BD
