+1. It really didn't seem like a Bond movie.

It almost should have been called James Bond: The Generic Action Movie.

I didn't hate the movie, but I really couldn't bring myself to like it either (I really tried). The 20+ minute foot chase scene at the beginning was so unrealistic and over the top with action that it made it kind of ridiculous and hard to take the movie seriously afterwords.

Unrealistic, over the top action = all Bond movies since Brosnan IMO. Isn't that what makes them fun?

Ok, I can see that to some extent, which is why I don't hate the movie.

I guess I just miss
James Bond:The Spy and Secret Agent who gets by on intelligence and sneakiness.
which has been replaced by:
James Bond:Superhuman Government Agent who gets by on rushing in and physically beating his adversaries.

Besides, if I want a Superhuman Government Agent, then I am going with the Bourne movies. At least they have backstory as to why he is superhuman.

It looked great and was well done....but NO STORY....One over-the-top action scene followed by a more over-the-top action scene, repeat, repeat, repeat.

Yeah, I agree. I think they saw the success of the Bourne movies, with everyone like, it's a new type of secret agent, and they wanted to get in on that hype.

well yeah, that's why I said I can't decide! I should note that I've never actually seen the whole thing all the way through. Just kept popping up on HBO and whatnot and I would watch like 20 minutes each time. One of those movies.

Mine would be Blue Velvet.

I was so disturbed and upset that I was pissed at the Movie. I thought about it for days. It wasnt until days later when I was describing it to friends that I discovered that it was brilliant.

But I remember in the first few days, very consciously, asking myself, did I love it or was it trash, or was it great and did I hate it?

If you mean slow, I agree. But thats what I liked about it...the tension built at a painfull but consistent pace. I also liked the new take on Vampires, in that there was not this suave charming seduction going on...just rabid carnivores. I thought the ending was great because it allows the viewer to decide what happened to him.

I mean slow, but also the vampires just weren't scary to me at all. I know there's plenty of people who liked it, and I can see why, it just didn't do it for me.

I felt this way recently about Be Kind Rewind. It left me kind of like, huh, I'm not sure where I landed on that one.

Interesting how we all perceive thing so differently.

Did you ever see Dog Soldiers? I thought that was a great spin on the warewolf genre.

I say yes. Neil Marshall directed. Nice military conspiracy spin too. Lots of surprises and (for me) the baddies were HIGHLY intimidating. It developed a good sense of " We aint getting out of here".

Give it a rent. I'd like to hear what you think.

Tim Burton's Batman, I'm on the fence about whether I really like it or not.
