These sound perfect for me since I live in the top floor of an apartment building and I want to be on good terms with the neighbors.
My dad has an ancient Pioneer receiver that should be able to work fine to power these. One noob question as I am still a novice. I would need to buy a subwoofer correct? I current have just 2 polk tsi300 floorstanding speakers and the matching center channel. |

I guess the poster above answered my question, but I didn't really want to add a sub now, but these bass shakers for only about $40 a piece seem worth it. |

Well.... I'd been going back and forth on Buttkickers for a while; but the cost to benefit ratio never really tempted me enough. After looking at this thread, I realized I could do Aura bass shakers for under $150, and said what the heck. So I got two of the shakers and this amp..
http://www.parts-express.com/pe/show...number=300-784 You guys recomended receivers to control the "volume," but this is a drop in amp; so I am just going to cut a hole in one of the two consoles in my sectional... and drop it in there. If I want to make adjustments; just flip up the lid and turn the dial ![]() Now... I got two shakers with the intent of putting one on my love seat, and one on my right recliner. I haven't flipped up the recliner, but from what I can tell, the frame is all metal so there's no good mounting spots. So now I am left with a choice of putting them both into the loveseat (which I really think will be over kill) Or...... I had an idea but I think it has drawbacks. Now'd be a good time to look at the sofa in my gallery to see what I am talking about........ OK.... it's five pieces. All hook into each other with metal slide locks. The whole thing is surprisingly light for how sturdy it is. One of the first things I noticed about it when I got it was how much better my low frequencies seemed to "flow" through it compared to my old furniture. The two consoles are separate pieces, basically big boxes (if I were a speaker builder, I'd put real subs into them) but anyway; I was thinking that if I mounted each of the two shaker on one of the vertical walls inside each console.... I'd get full sofa coverage..... but would likely loose the ability for convenient remote/game controller storage due to the vibrations. Anyway.... if I do this right, should be a nice clean install like the sofa was made with it. Any thoughts? Last edited by Uniquely; 12-05-2008 at 11:39 PM. |

=) it's not just because of a control remote issue, but i think overall, it's much more power and accuracy. Think of it this way, it's like when you built a HT, you would want to run the wire "for" future use, not in the present, you'd want to run PVC pipe to slide wires better or run HDMI for future components. Part express is very good with return policy, just refuse the package and when it come back to them, they will cancel the charge. Re-order the bass shaker and i believe Amazon have the sr505 for 167 buck. It is well worth the money and you don't have to deal with replacing it for more power. Think i learned from building HT is that plan for the future because you will always wanted more.

=) it's not about frequency tralvel or what not, i'm saying is what you're trying to do is running 70w rms at 4 ohm in to 50 watts rms 4 ohm shaker. You'll be turning it all the way up just for it to be working at minimum level while having the amp running hot at full force. Just my 2 cents

I wired the two bass shakers in series to create an 8 ohm load, and all seems to be working fine. I started out at about half gain on the amp, and it was too much. The sofa shook when car doors shut, and other minor effects. I really only wanted to accent the explosions and major effects. I ended up at about 15% gain and got all the shaking I want. The amp never got any warmer than it does when it's powered off.

45 rms at 8 ohm load onto 2 shakers... You could say that you're okay with it, but chances are those shakers aren't even working close to its pontential.
But if you're happy! then that's all that matter =) welcome to the bass shaking club. wooooo!!! ps: haha we watch scary movie the other nite, i had the shaker in off and at the part where i know it'd will make a big thumb, i turn it on. My gf jumped right off the couch petrified! LOL |
