These are already in my queue for a purchase, except for AC/DC. They're a great band to be sure, but I've never been more than just a casual fan of their stuff.

I really like Amy Winehouse however and was wondering what the AQ/PQ is like. Care to share your thoughts on that one?

Picked up the Rush Snake and Arrows concert BD a couple of days ago, and wow, it was awesome! I just missed the part with them cooking those chickens on stage, so am still wondering what was up with that.

The same label's 'Barber of Seville' ('Il Barbiere di Siviglia') is also very good, and the BD makes for terrific eye candy.

And, for the record (pun probably intended), while my main interest is classical music (orchestral and opera), I also have and enjoy the following on Blu:

Dave Matthews
Pat Metheny
Justin Timberlake

Hey Russell,

Your post isn't out of left field at all. As I mentioned at the end my mine, I'm looking to get 2 OPUS ARTE releases for Christmas. By the time you include taxes and possibly shipping, if I have to order them from the U.S., they're like $50 a piece, which is a lot. Anyway, that's beside the point. I'd like one Opera disc and one BD audio only disc. Any recommendations?

Well, I'd go with the 'Carmen' BD that I mentioned in my original post. The performance is terrific as is the sound quality. PQ is great as well, if perhaps not quite as razor-sharp as I've seen on other discs. I only have one complete opera on Opus Arte ('The Magic Flute', or 'Die Zauberflote') and that's very good as well, but I was really bowled over by the 'Carmen'.

As for BD audio-only, I know of only the following:

https://www.blu-ray.com/movies/movie...97&show=review

I have it, and the performances are good as the review indicates, though frankly I found the sound quality on the SACD version veering toward the hard and strident. YMMV.

I have John Mayer's "Where The Light Is" which is absolutely fantastic. Even if I'm beginning to loathe the man himself, he is a guitar and musical genius.

Foo Fighters - live at Wembley stadium. Great concert, not so great a BD but a must have for my collection.

Below are the ones I have.

Beyonce: The Beyonce Experience
Celine Dion: Live in Las Vegas
Dave Mattews and Tim Reynolds: Live At Radio City
Destiny's Child: Live In Atlanta
Heart: Alive In Seattle
Jewel: The Essential Live Songbook
Mariah Carey: The Adventures of Mimi
Nine Inch Nails: Beside You in Time
Shakira: Oral Fixation Tour

I think Celine Dion's concert looks the best. She has amazing sets and lighting. Shakira's is probably the most fun (she's full of energy and seems the most personable although Jewel seems really personable and down to the earth as well). Music-wise, it depends on my mood.

None of these interest me. I do have the NIN disc though, and ABBA if you count that one (sort of a concert/movie hybrid).

I've rented AC/DC and Tenacious D too.

I will willingly buy a Metallica, Slipknot, Evanescence, Linkin Park or Killswitch Engage BD.

Thanks Russell...the Diversimenti disc is a def buy for the BD Audio one. I'm not a knowledgable Opera fan and thereby not very familiar with it. Regarding Carmen, why were you so bowled over by it?

'Carmen' is a great opera for someone new to the genre. The story is intriguing and believable, and the music is full of good tunes. (You might even recognize some of them.) This particular performance (the one on Decca, not the one on Opus Arte) positively seethes with passion and intensity. Opera singers aren't generally known for their acting skills--Maria Callas was the exception here--but the 2 lead singers in this 'Carmen' are incredible in both the acting and singing departments. This particular production is very physical and sexual--and they pull it off brilliantly. They really throw themselves into their parts, and by the end of the opera, you feel as exhausted as they must have felt. I've seen (and heard) many performances of 'Carmen', but nothing that approaches this one.
