Room acoustics also include the floor - I noticed a large difference in how much of my sub's energy was going into the floor when I started using the Auralex GRAMMA riser, more traditionally used for guitar amps or bass racks.

http://www.sweetwater.com/store/detail/GRAMMA

For $50 shipped, used on my $2,000 sub, it was a tweak well worth it.
I would be interested to measure the actual difference sometime because I can tell that from about 18Hz to 60Hz I am now hearing and feeling more bass and hearing less shuddering in the house foundations.

As with any tweaks you should know your own equipment and what works best for it. There's no harm in trying things that have money back guarantees. Herbies makes good tweaks for turntables too.

I'd like to throw this out there, and hopefully not fuel the fire.....

I have an "isolation pad" under my subwoofer, and find that it prevents some of the unwanted vibrations from going directly into the floor-boards, and thus to the equipment etc..... I'm not suggestion it's a huge difference, nor am I suggesting it's too small to notice..... so I think just because some may feel the isolation pads/spikes, etc.. are "snake oil" I don't see the purpose of attacking the OP.

By the way, my "isolation pad" is a section of astro-turf that came with my stadium seating..... fake grass on top, but it's a solid inch/inch and 1/4 thick of rubber....... gets the job done

That is somewhat similar to the Herbie's Iso-Cups and Iso-Cup Bases:

I use 4 of these under each of my 3 (will be 5 when I go to a 7.1 system) Power amps.

I ordered some of those footers and put them under my shoes making cleats of a sort.
I finished my days work before lunch each day and got a 20% raise.
They improved my performance.

I'm going to order one of those mass stabilizer discs to put on my head,..look out Ima going to be high performance!

With these rubbery pads under my PS2,... I can suddenly play PS3 games. And my ipod can play SACD! These things are un-believable.

Gee Brian,

Nothing like having an open mind and be willing to try anything that comes with a money back guarantee. A scientist you are not or would not be. Do you also think that all speakers sound the same? Herbie's does sell inexpensive items as well as his more expensive items:

$12.38 each

$3.49- $11.69 each

$3.19 each

$.50 - $ 4.00 each

$8.69 each

$10.69 each

Rich

Yes, because I thought you were kidding and suggesting that none of these things actually have any affect on the sound and such things as standing waves. Sorry if I mis-read what you were suggesting.

Please give Rich a break. He did not force anybody to buy anything. He merely stated that he had good results from Herbie's products.

In my thread on Building Subwoofers and Upgrading Speakers, I claimed that Super Tweeters (a far more expensive tweak) benefitted my speakers. I am not suggesting that anybody else should buy them, but simply stating that they worked for me. You can write a thousand posts telling me that I am a fool, but that doesn't stop me from buying another pair of super tweeters for my home theater room.

If you really want a crazy tweak, check these cool Acoustic Art room treatments from Synergistic Research. Make sure you click on each one to get additional information. You can buy them at The Cable Company.

Let's end whatever problems anyone had with each other. I thought how Nature described his results and what it did for him as very exaggerated and that he said it was inexpensive, leading me to think that others may think that it is a simple feasible thing that is cost-efficient for most people when in fact it is a high-end audio tweak that may or may not affect significantly your audio. I thought it sounded misleading but didn't mean to start anything. So much...confusion!

In my first posting I indicated that the Herbie's footers were relatively inexpensive. The effects are cumulative. But, the effects that you stated were very exaggerated were noticeable with each and every piece by itself that I tried. This can be confirmed by comments on the Herbie' website as well as elsewhere. Additionally, you can try the footers under each component to find out if you wish to use them with other components. But on a piece by piece basis for a system, they can be inexpensive. As an example, if you look at the 2nd photo in my posting (# 48 above), the small fat dots cost $3.49 each. Using 3 as recommended under each speaker for your front 2 speakers costs only $20.49. I would say that that is a very inexpensive and worthwhile improvement. The consumer has to decide for him or herself where to stop.

The reason that my costs were so high is because of the number of component pieces in my system which include: turntable, phono preamp, AM/FM tuner, Blu-ray player, DVD/SACD/DVD-A player, DAC, Pre/Pro, DirecTV HD Receiver, 5 Heavy, Expensive, Upgraded Power Amps (using a total of 20 Herbie's most expensive footers), and 2 Power Conditioning type components. I would guess that most members of this forum only have a receiver, blu-ray player, and only possibly one or two other components in their system.

I will leave it at that.

Rich

The footers under audio gear is the equivalent of women and the obsession with shoes.

They may indeed make a difference but high heels aren't for everyone.

That's an odd analogy and I have no idea how it works.

Good isolation on a turntable is not a debatable point - it's imperative.

I don't think you're crazy.

You'd be crazy if you gave those tweets to me. But I'd keep quiet about it.

Something like this would be something many people could see advantages with. My windows, doors, and floors start shaking violently when there is a lot of action or I am running test tones through my subs. Would getting two be a good idea (one for my A2-300 and my DIY sub)? Do they have a money-back guarantee (if-needed)? It's just a considerable option if so.

I am curious also, will it handle the A2-300's footprint?
