King Kong and The Frighteners are Universal Studios titles, so they're exclusive to HD-DVD. I don't what power Mr. Jackson would have, but the rumor, if you haven't heard, is that only BD will get the extended cut since, in HD, it could not all fit on one dual-layer HD-DVD. I would think Peter Jackson would be okay w/ it going to BD, since people can get the full movie experience by having his version in HD on only one disc, but that's just my thought.

If you really want to laugh, check out the DVD player section. They'll probably have two BD players hooked up to HDTVs, while the HD-DVD player is on the shelf, next to the LG combo, w/ a copy of the mailer you fill out getting your five free HD-DVDs. From what I've read on here, not many places still have HD-DVD displays.

Then once again, BD owners could see Jurassic Park, Saving Private Ryan, Gladiator, War of the Worlds etc. go to HD DVD. They're all Universal if I'm not mistaken. Spielburg can't be the only director owning partial rights to his movies.

There is a thread in the movies section that gives a breakdown to Steven's titles (what goes to Blu-ray and what goes to HD DVD). I remember seeing in that thread Saving Private Ryan (among others) are suppose to come to Blu-ray.

Edit: It is under the title Spielberg Breakdown. I can't link you to it (I'm on the PS3).

I think the new HD DVD motto/spin is, "Look, we're not getting our @sses kicked THAT bad".
Classic!

This is in a week where they were "supposed" to outsell BD. This whole thing has become such a joke, and shame on Warner Bros. and Universal for continuing this charade called HD DVD.
All true.

So that's another hurdle passed, now they're admitting Blu-ray's ahead.

guys, a question: Has there been any spike seen (so far) in BD sales thanks to the PS3s heading into homes in EU? Similar to the one seen in NA post-launch.

thanks for any info

Not in the UK on Amazon...well just the top 1000

That would be a yes for Amazon in Germany

I couldn't tell you what's happening on other online sites (like play.com) and in retail stores. Sorry.

I've never seen movie disk sales data released for the UK or Europe like N.Videoscan does for the US.
