He has one that is more expensive one ($144.44) designed for matless acrylic-platter turntables like your VPI Scout: http://herbiesaudiolab.home.att.net/grungtt.htm"

Hey Rich,.... Are there any posts from you that don't push herbiesaudio stuff?
Yes and lots of them. Though many indicate Dave Schulte of the Upgrade Company for upgraded components. Anyway, I was only trying to help out. I have used platter mats (many different ones over the years) on my Thorens with much success. As far as the Herbie's mat I have not seen it. I just new about it from reading.

By the way, for my in preparation (which I hope to have next month) Teres Audio 450 Turntable (wooden platter; also I believe only the 4th of this model made) ($15,000 without tonearm, preamp, phono cartridge), I have one of Herbie's mats to just at least try to see if there is any difference in the performance. Chris Brady of Teres will even be coming from Denver to install the Turntable set-up with his first Beta Test Tonearm and a Strain Gauge Cartridge and Phono Preamp. So it will be interesting to hear the designers comments.

OK,

Sorry for the thread jack...

If isolation makes sense for anything it's turntables.

I'm done with the angst... I'm not going to order a puck to put on top of my PS3 (the curved top wouldn't allow me to anyway.)

Anyway,... if you really wanted to help with the herbies audio talk you may have helped someone so it's worth while. After sparring it bit,... I refelcted on my own setup and how I may tweak a bit and try to ring out some more performance. My problem if you can call it that is ... I'm too happy with the systems performance as it is.

Sure--he usually pushes Dave Schulte's Upgrade Company (whoever they are)! :-)

It is good stuff and for the cost very reasonable price, honest.

Rich
Although I don't doubt your recomendations for a second Rich and am glad that you can afford the upgrades you have mentioned so frequently from Dave Schultze, most of us could not even begin to entertain the thought of using his services. And we certainly could not envision a designer coming to our home to set it all up.

It is obvious to me that you are an audiophile and have great interest in finding that musical nirvana we all seek. I have also noted that you take this very seriously and express your opinions accordlingly (as you should), but please remember they oftentimes aren't realistic alternatives for most of us. So I would say Rich, let's keep it more real. (I know I'm gonna hammered for this, but that's ok!)

I truly do respect your opinions Rich, because you always have something intelligent to post. And this post wasn't meant to offend you in any way.

John I don't think you are going to get slammed as the usual participants who do talk about mid-high end gear have enough respect to disagree without insults. Others do as well, let me include that.

However I don't think Rich should hold back at all. I know I enjoy reading all sorts of posts about the low end to the very high end of gear or even tweaks. It's what Rich knows and he is simply communicating about it. Though some of his gear and tweaks are out of range for probably most of us I still don't want him to dumb it down. John, I know you don't mean any disrespect and I get your point. I do think people are alienated on this site often times, so they either don't participate or simply stop coming here. There is room for all of us here (I hope) From people with HTIB to systems like Rich's.

I have had friends here and myself that have been told before "you have more money than you know what to do with", and "more money than brains" and I really don't think it was called for. My system pales in comparison to many others. I just don't get it here sometimes. Blu-ray is not cheap compared to DVD, the price has come down a lot since the technology has come out. People were often ridiculed in the beginning for believing in Blu-ray and it was only for rich people. Blu-ray was even considered the snobbish format compared to HDDVD. If you were to talk about Blu-ray to some, people acted like you were showing off. In the end I/you/they were just sharing the excitement or experiences and even simply sparking up a conversation about Blu-ray.

Rich's gear/tweaks aren't for everyone but I know I like reading about it. I drive a VW Passat but I still like to read about Porches and such. I don't want to see Rich pushed away because he is limited to what he can talk about. I know you aren't trying to limit him in any way and I bet Rich knows that for the most part people aren't able to afford his suggestions but we can still enjoy a conversation.

Blu-ray is now even being reviewed in Stereophile magazine. All kinds of people are now enjoying Blu-ray from a HTIB BD setup to those with full blown audiophile grade systems. This is what was suppose to happen with the format right ???

I just don't want to see anyone alienated or this is going to be be a very boring one dimensional website.

saw "somethin' else" Cannonball Adderley, didn't see "kind of blue" by Miles, or "take five" by Brubeck, both of which still sound fresh even after 50 years.

WOW, I feel like weeping like a little baby....seriously.

Just like the kid in Almost Famous looking under his bed at the albums his sister left him, "this thread will set you free".

I have a Bang and Olufsen Beogram RX turntable and about 100 vinyls so far.

Just for the record mdabb, Rich and I have had a conversation about my post through PM and everything is cool. He understands that I, in no way, was trying to have him curtail his opinions. In fact, I encouraged him to not stop, because like you I value his opinions and enjoy reading his intelligently worded responses.

Being the class guy that he is, Rich didn't feel alienated at all. And I hope to see a lot more of his insights and opinions in this forum.
