To this day I still regret the major mistake I made with this film. I decided to see Van Damme's awful film The Quest in the theater over this. What a major mistake since this became one of my favorite thrillers. Im still traumatized by that decision

Was it supposed to be a shock, or a "Wow!" moment, at the end when
[Show spoiler]
Aaron slipped up and said, "Mr Vail, tell Ms Venable I'm sorry about her neck" ?

We understand that Aaron isn't supposed to know about what Roy does...etc , but, if that was the case, someone would have told "Aaron" ; a guard, Mr Vail, the Dr, or Mrs Venanle (any number of people) would have told Aaron what Roy did. So that part didn't feel like a shocker

Love the film. However, This bluray release sticks out as having some of the worst artwork. Paramount went from using their original poster art to stuff like this... I mean, blurays usually have bad artwork, but this one is in a league all its own.

And yes, I realize that the artwork might have been WB's decision. Still.

The true twist was
[Show spoiler]when he said there was no Aaron.
Although I see what you are saying, and that part might've been a slip-up, or maybe intentional. I would guess
[Show spoiler]he couldn't wait to tell him though.

Question

Gonna bump this thread once more to ask a question. Is the Sept 2017 "Hard Evidence" version also the same as the 2009 and 2013 versions? The site has it listed as region A, is that because nobody has tested it for other regions? The 2017 is the cheapest one at the moment and I'd love to get it because I recently saw this movie for the first time and loved it. I'd known about it for a quite some time but never got around to seeing it. Holy crap that twist at the end was amazing. It completely blindsided me. The best twist I've seen in years.

Yeah I would like to know this too because it's cheap right now but doesn't say if it is region free

I can't be certain whether Aaron's slip is real or not, in the moment, but my suspicion is that it is. Remember, Roy is the "real" personality, Aaron is a sociopath's incredibly-well-rehearsed imitation of a "nice" person. He has probably been playing Aaron so long that it would be natural for him to habitually apologize for everything.

My read on the scene is that Roy is winding down his performance, he makes that mistake, and then decides in the moment to reveal everything to Richard Gere, because he realizes it won't make any difference anyway. But, the way Norton plays it, it could also be read as a test -- I'm going to toss this "mistake" out there, and if you catch it, you pass, and I will tell you what happened. (Also, as I recall it, there is a set-up earlier where Aaron is confronted by Roy's actions and flips out on somebody, so it's reasonable that the guards would've been instructed *not* to talk to Aaron about Roy's actions.)

Either way, he definitely *could* have made the excuse that you offer, "the guard told me what happened", or something similar; the real point of the moment is that Roy (for whatever reason you interpret) decides to let Gere in on his secret.

Any chance that Primal Fear gets a 4K UHD in the not so distant future?
Tempted to revisit this film before the Ozark finale drops.

Same.

Silly as it sounds, I really hope they go with the theatrical film poster artwork that is gorgeous. The yellow police evidence and forensic tape editions cheapen it for me.
