I totally agree that it got amplified after his death and yeah i'm not going to predict him for an oscar right away with movies like The Wrestler and Milk coming out.

Comedies that won Best Picture.
Yeah, but Gump is the only one to win in the past 30 years and Gump while being a comedy, has its drama and seriousness to it. its not far from being all laughs. the academy has changed.

So out of the past 30 years of Oscars, one time a comedy has won.

Kp Forrest Gump had funny parts, but I would not call that a comedy. More like a Drama with some humor

Nothing can be worse than Meet The Spartans, Epic Movie, and Never Back Down...those all should have gone straight to VHS..not even worthy of a DVD.

hahahaha

As far as the Best Picture goes, what about Gran Torino? Heard it was great, and Eastwood never makes a bad film.

Let's look at the pitch:

A guy with an iq of a eight year old affects all the major events in American history for the past forty years.

Classic comedy structure, it doesn't work as a drama just ask Sean Penn.

Yes, but there was too much drama involved. Pursuing the girl of his dreams, his mom dying, then getting the girl, and she dies. It had funny moments but it had a lot of serious drama. Forrest Gump by no means is a true comedy

I knew what you meant, I had to burn you though lol. I heard bad things about the Changeling, plus Jolie is a horrid actress. Flags of Our father was campy at the end for me and Iwo Jima blew that out of the water too

Perhaps you should see some of the "true" comedy classics like The Apartment and Some Like it Hot and It Happened One Night. They all have dramatic elements that make the story compelling. A comedy without a compelling story is not a movie, just a series of skits.

Never got the chance to see Changeling, but for the most part I've enjoyed all/most of his films he's came out with in the past 20 years. (Firefox was 26 years ago and should have fallen off the map by now.)

I was trying to think of other movies that could get a nom if Wall*E doesn't. It was just the first one I came up with. Would love to hear more ideas. How is Doubt? Haven't seen it yet either.

well, ill be the first to say they don't make them like they used to.

but this still doesn't make up for the fact that only 1 comedy (gump) has won best picture in the past 30 years.

and very funny movies out there, that push the boundries never, ever get nominated for jack even though they are sometimes reviewed well and make lots of money. its like the academy finds they are too mature to give these movies any type of credit.
