I personally disliked both narnia movies. I don't know if it was the acting, the story itself, or what but the movies were just bad overall.

So once the first LOTR film smashed records to pieces, they quickly moved on the Narnia rights and had no problem spending whatever it cost to make the movies - thinking that they would see the same success as LOTR. No so much.

So here we are today, with The Hobbit getting anything and everything they want while the Narnia movies are fighting to even get made. And yes, I'll say it, Hollywood is just too damn repetative for their own good. They think that making the same film over and over is a good idea just because the first one was succesful. Let this be lesson to them, that I'm sure they'll forget soon enough.
It is also because Prince Caspian did $440m WW BO and cost $250m to make and promote, basically Disney only broke even. Also we shouldn't forget that the movie was a bit of a let down and very politically charged (IMO) which turned a lot of people off the franchise for good. For Disney that's not a good thing...

I wouldn't be surprised to see MGM pick this up in a few years if Fox don't go for it because of the incredibly large budget that is being demanded...

LOL, I almost spewed breakfast all over my keyboard

(Predator would totally win unless it was Arnold vs. Aslan vs. Predator in which all bets are on the governator)

Just think of all the money that could have been saved if they'd just stuck to the book rather than producing $40 million castle assaults

That is too bad, let's hope someone else pick up the rights and make the next one.

+1 My friends and I who are huge fans of the book don't even want a third movie to be made because it is clear that the writers are going to screw over the original vision of the author even more than they did in Caspian.

Thanks =]

Amazing how much some movies make on dvd alone. High School Musical 2 made 90 million and was never in theater...

I'm honestly surprised PC didn't do better so far considering it's the holidays.

Just think of the money they'd have LOST if they'd stuck to the book...

Book fans were originally hoping Disney could've just skimmed over the overwritten time-killing Caspian completely and gone straight to Dawn Treader, like the BBC series did--
But, given Andrew Adamson knocking himself out to "redeem" the second book for cinema as he did the first one, we'll appreciate that while he may have overdid it a tad here, actual entertainment value was thoroughly needed. -_-

Personally i'm not in favour of this action. Simply put, Disney have done a great job with both movies. The sales of the DVD and BD would bring revenue in for many years and they could milk it if they wanted to.

The theatrical release of the 2nd installment was in contention with Batman TDK and Indiana Jones. People do like the franchise and if marketed and released right, the third instalment would probably get the respectable numbers of viewers they are looking for. This is a bad move on Disney's part, even worse is that the original actors might pull out.

This also puts any future instalments in a different set of hands making the feel different, boxsets will not include all the titles. What a ridiculous situation.

If Fox jump on it quickly it just goes to show what a franchise it is. It needs more respect than what Disney are showing it.

It's definitely not dead, it will be made by another studio if this information is true.

They mentioned logistics and budget as their reasons for leaving the project. While I can't comment on the logistics part, a quick google search gets me their box office figures, compared to budget...

Chronicles of Narnia: The Lion, the Witch, and the Wardrobe

Budget - $180,000,000
Worldwide Gross - $748,806,957

Chronicles of Narnia: Prince Caspian

Budget - $200,000,000
Worldwide Gross - $419,490,286

This according to - http://www.the-numbers.com/movies/se...esOfNarnia.php

I understand that box office pull is not a direct correlation to profit, but this series makes some big time money for Disney just to up and leave.
