dang, I want this. Too bad it doesn't have subtitles.

I've never heard about Air being on Blu. Pretty good show =].

So am I! Also waiting for Samurai Champloo. That series was awesome as well.

Also hoping that Ranma 1/2 & Oh My Goddess will come to BD. The colors on those would look so awesome on BD.

As for Akira, does anyone know what English track is included? I usually watch my Anime in Japanese but I remember watching Akira in English as a kid on LaserDisc. I actually thought the dubbing done on the LD was pretty good but I forget who did it. Then when Pioneer released the DVD they redid the dubbing and it was HORRIBLE. But then again, Original Japanese Audio FTW!

Considering they now have the space I would hope both Dubs would be included but I think it will only include the new dub. Which is a damn shame. The original dub isn't the most accurate but it is a classic.

Agreed! The original dub sounded like they were adlibing a lot of the stuff.

I'm guessing that Disney is going to release these so they can take their time working on them. So far the PQ on everything Disney has released has been awesome so I rather they work on them well than rushing them.

A lot of the old dub was ad-libbed. For some reason, many older dubs of anime felt the need to "improve" the original dialogue and to fill up silent scenes with lots of extra dialogue.

The consensus is that the Blu-ray will only include the more recent dub. The reason: The old dub has poor sound quality (not referring to the acting) by today's standards.

Since Blood: The Last Vampire was one of the first digital anime (it may have even been the first that was 100% digital), I doubt it was done in HD. It was released almost 10 years ago. It would probably look a little better on Blu-ray, but you wouldn't see the same jump in quality that you would in a film with traditional animation. It would likely be an upscale from SD.

Something like Vampire Hunter D: Bloodlust or even Ninja Scroll would benefit more from HD and the Blu-ray format.

Normally I don't buy anime that was 'subcontracted' by US studios to Japanese animation studios, but I've heard good things about Batman: Gotham Knight so I gave it a shot with the UK Amazon B2G3 sale.

Definitely also waiting for all the Studio Gibli movies to be released, most of all Majo no Takkyuubin and Sen to Chihiro.

In the mean time, I might also get the Freedom box and DBZ movies (the latter ones for the sake of nostalgia)

Ya I would say check out Freedom. I really enjoyed it, the only thing that I didn't like was that it was a little short. So if you can get it at a low price. PQ and AQ is pretty good and it comes in a very cool box.

As for Tekkonkinkreet it has amazing visuals, I got a little lost on the story but I say check it out.

I want the Ghibli films in HD, but since I already own all of the Japanese R2 DVDs, the idea of double dipping for each one doesn't thrill me (the DVDs were expensive). I actually had quite a few of them on LD as well, so the Blu-ray releases will be triple dips for titles like Kiki's Delivery Service and Whisper of the Heart. The sad thing is I doubt I'll be able to resist the Blus when they're eventually released.

Escaflowne Movie *
Ghost in the Shell S.A.C. Trilogy Box *

I want these, very very much. I am trying to hold out for domestic releases.
