Do not know your specific models but this I can tell you:
When Calibrating you need to turn OFF any "features" that the TV uses to "help" the viewing experience..e.g. Black level, Dynamic Contrast, Edge Enhancement etc etc.. do use srgb..it will give you the better colors...and do use Movie mode...hope it helps

Maybe I'm mis-reading your post...

You don't try and set those things because you're about to use DVE.... You instead use DVE to set those things.

Anyway... I suggest watching though the tutorials on DVE as they explain how and why you should use it.

Good Luck,

Brian

Film mode Auto sounds right.

Edge Enhancement Off if that's an option. Sometimes Sharpness to 0 or mid-point is the same thing as no edge enhancement.

Black Level --- that's a highly debated one. If you calibrate you should get the same results with either setting... The darker is for displays that can use blacker than black to set the black level... you may want to explore that.

Contrast and Black level of the display device will be adjusted with test patterns from the disc... hopefully it's not a matter of High, Med, Low.. that doesn't sound too good ... should be more like 0 to 100 for both settings.

it does have 0 100 for contrast, but there also is another contrast in detailed settings that has low med high. What about warm cool normal?

Joe,

What's a DLP HLT6176S???

I can look up recommended setting to start with on tweaktv.com but ... I actually don't know what that is. I assume it's a flat screen DLP HDTV but it doesn't seem to be from Hitachi so... what is it?

I also don't understand this...

"Also have a PN50A650 Plasma with a 10 ak bluray"

Seems you have another HDTV... You will have to do them one by one.

I am sorry, they are both samsungs, in my sig below I have the whole name spelled out.

Due I want to use cinema standard or dynamic, what about the temp? Due I want to use the filters that came with the tv? Both of my tvs have a blue screen.

How about the noise adjuster? on or off?

What about teh gamma and indvidual color adjuster? due I need to touch them?

the DLP has SRGB or Normal option which due I want?
the plasma has XVYCC Color on or off whitch due I want?

The 87 model that you posted is a LED based DLP I have a BULB, Due I want to use them as a base and then use the DVE from there? thanks

You will likely have better luck with the "cinema" setting. Dynamic is for watching broadcast sports (for the most part.)

If your sets let you output just blue then you don't need the filters but it may be interesting to try it both ways just for kicks. (Saturation and Hue really shouldn't apply to HDMI video... those are left overs from composite and S-video type of stuff.)

Gamma could be adjusted with test patterns. To adjust the individual colors you want a color meter.

I suggest using TweakTV setting and then go from there. DVE explains a lot of what and how you use it (and why.)

It may be at one of their stores, but it is not available to be shipped by mail from them.
