They're worth the upgrade from the DVD releases, the audio on both films is great as are the special features but the picture quality is pretty good for both of them although they can look much better. The problem is they've had DNR applied to them but fortunately not on the same level as say the Predator: Ultimate Hunter Edition or Patton discs. Also in the case of the first film, some edge enhancement is also clearly visible but it only appears very briefly from time to time and it isn't majorly distracting. They both look better than previous releases though including the HDDVD release for the first film. But with the second film if you have a HDDVD player, get that edition as there isn't any DNR applied to that release, there isn't any lossless audio on that disc though. Hope this helped

Look at this screen from The Mummy:

The movies are watchable if you can get over the tinkering.

Default trailer included

Can anyone confirm if the American mummy blu-ray disc includes a trailer for the movie?

Both the 1st and 2nd film don't have the trailers, so I still kept my dvd's. I have the original mummy dvd release from 1999 that has the teaser and trailer.

I would have sworn the 2nd one did have a trailer on the blu-ray as well as the dvd.

After viewing the 1st and 2nd ones again on blu-ray and comparing them to the hd dvd editions, the blu-rays for both films have had very noticiable DNR applied to them whilst the hd dvds weren't filtered. Sure the scratches and other pieces of print damage that were on the hd dvds were removed but quite a lot of fine detail was removed as well. There's also scratch removal artifacts on the blu rays as well, some small objects like sparks etc have been accidently erased, they're isn't any scratch removal and erased objects on the hd dvds. Such a shame universal had to do these things to the blu-rays, i'm sticking with the hd dvds, they look a lot more natural.

Universal made the same mistakes with The Thing, Apollo 13, and U-571. All three of these HD DVDs look better than their BD counterparts.

Yeah, I made the mistake of 'upgrading' the HD DVD to the BD. While the HD DVD has some obvious EE going on, the BD looks awful in comparison. Went back to the HD DVD.

I know that it comes with a DVD and a digital copy, but I'm talking about the Blu-Ray disc itself. There doesn't seem to be much information about the new release, and what information there is is conflicting. There are no reviews for it, either on this site or elsewhere.

Does anyone here know if it's remastered or not, if the picture and audio quality are the same or better, whether it has all the extras from the previous release, etc?
It's exactly the same as the regular edition, extras and all.

So it's basically the same disc, just repackaged?

Yep, they just repackaged it for the Uni 100th, just like all the other releases.

Would you say that the new packaging is an improvement? I don't own "The Mummy" on Blu-Ray yet, so I was wondering if the new packaging would make it worth paying a little extra for the new edition. Are these new Universal 100th Anniversary Blu-Rays collector's items or something of that nature?

Universal also did the same thing to DragonHeart, the hd dvd looks better in comparison. I personally think that The Thing was affected by DNR the most out of all the hd dvd ports that were DNR'ed. It was the grainiest transfer out of them all and the blu-ray looks smeared and blurred in comparison. Such a shame cause blu-ray should be making these transfers look better than on hd dvd due to the higher bitrate, not worse.

I'm considering upgrading from DVD to the Wal Mart 3 movie collection. Does anyone have any input on these? I enjoy these movies very much and don't want to waste my money if the transfers aren't very good.

I don't think they look "horrendous" as the poster above mentioned but its my understanding the first film received a slather of DNR...not sure about the second and third. I'm not as savvy as some others are around here and picking up on alot of the digital trickery used to "pretty up" movies for the current generation of movie watchers but I didnt think these were enough of an eyesore to make them unwatchable, thats just me though.

I'll put it this way. I very much doubt these will get a re-release with an improved "true to the source" transfer so its either get these....or wait until the next format comes out and cross your fingers they don't screw that up.

Now we just need the Mummy's Tomb, The Mummy's Ghost, The Mummy's Curse and The Mummy's Hand.

But seriously, I thought it was a worthy upgrade, at least for the first two. I never bothered, and am not interested in, watching the third one. I still held on to my Ultimate Edition DVD of The Mummy. At the time, that Ultimate was pretty awesome.
