Help Me Identify This Movie

Anyhow, here's a re-cap of how great my memory of the movie was:

-It was a bio-pic type of movie, about a guy with an hispanic-sounding name.

RIGHT (True story about Chico Mendes)

-I think the guy's last name had 3 syllables, but maybe not.

WRONG (It had 2 syllables)

-I think it took place in South America, but maybe Central America.

RIGHT (took place in Brazil)

-At least one scene in the movie took place at a sort of lumber mill, chopping down some of a forest (or technically a jungle?).

RIGHT (Sort of... the movie was about the rainforest being torn down, so I assumed it was a lumber mill, but close enough)

-The main character may or may not have gotten into some sort of drug ring (though for some reason I think he did).

WRONG (Chico Mendes was a nice guy)

-There is a scene where two prostitutes go up into the main character's room, which I clearly remember because my teacher had to run in front of the class and stand in front of the TV, while fast-forwarding through that scene.

RIGHT/WRONG? (The scene definitely exists, but it may not have involved Chico)

-The movie couldn't have been released after ~1997 (because I saw it in 97). I remember it seeming like it was from the early 90's, so to be safe, I'd say the movie was from sometime between 1988-1997.

RIGHT (1994)

-It's possible that it was a made-for-TV movie, but we were watching a copy rented from Blockbuster.

RIGHT (it was an HBO original movie, available on VHS at the time, not available on DVD)

-It's not Pablo Escobar.

RIGHT (it's Chico Mendes)

-It's not Predator.

RIGHT (it's The Burning Season)

I'm pretty sure it had an -ez ending for a last name (which doesn't really narrow it down for hispanic surnames).

RIGHT (Mendes is close enough to an -ez ending, so I'm saying I'm right... phonetically)

What problems, exactly? If America had a very low birth rate compared to pro-nudity countries, then I could see it being a problem. But I think at some point in life, we all figure out what to do, and until then we can keep our clothes on.

Isn't it ironic that a lot of nudists tend to be people you wouldn't want to see nude?

I so have the Janet Jackson incident in mind how much ado you guys made for a half a second boob showed on air, how your puritanical reaction was a joke over here. did you know that it was shown in the news over here during prime time and no kid died to the best of my knowledge ?

Much of north america does not realize that in MANY parts of the world, when the family (mom dad, kids, gramma grandpa) go to the beach they take most or all of their clothes off. Brothers see sisters, parents see grandparents, etc. Things are different here on this side of the pond. The human body isn't as sexualized like it has been for hundreds of years over here. You are a product of your own environent and have been taught differently than much of the rest of the world. Try to understand that.

I think you need to realize some people/societies/cultures, etc., are different than you and yours. Is one better than the other? Who knows. But this is the way we are here, and that's all there is to it. If you want to see nudity on network TV, stay in Europe. You act as though there is something evil about wearing clothes, that is corrupting our children.

True. Hence I've never said anything about shutting down nudist colonies, or the EU cracking down on nudity on TV, or anything of that sort.
