When I zoom on my Pioneer on one of those programs it just stretches the image up and down, does not strech side to side.

I have tried every setting multiple times...none seem to do that.
You can put it on auto-zoom (takes 4:3 content & stretches it). You can do it manually also, even though I haven't. If you have an HD cable box you can "zoom" with that also.

She's a beaut - the 72Hz Cinema mode is perfect - not the lunacy of the LCD AutoMotion (what some of you think is the 120Hz) - but the perfect balance. Really noticeable during slow-movement scenes. Wonderful.

As for the blacks - wowzers. I didnt think it would be that drastic of a dif to my old Philips LCD. But wow.

Not meaning to pry, JJ, but how in the Hell does a college student afford gear and a place like you have?

Work hard, play hard Ric - busted my ass over the summer to pay for all the audio upgrades I made last September. The TV was $1950, sure, but I sold my old one for $900, had my UM refund check come in as well, so in the end the Pioneer came out to $600 out of pocket, which I had saved up already for a future TV. It was supposed to be the Panny TH-50PZ85U, and I was going to get a bedroom TV as well...but in the end, I just splurged on the Kuro.

Place is rented - $1800/mo amongst 3 UM students isn't bad - $600/mo per person here in Miami for this kind of place is heaven!! I used to rent a POS apartment walking distance from UM for this much, but moving 5 miles away made a big difference in what I could get for the money!

But yes, my peoples do still think I sell drugs on the side, - I just HAD to be hispanic,

The person who mentioned heat might be one of the 2% who receive a tv with some sort of problem.

Good for you, and very impressive. We need more folks willing to work hard like this to get what they want. I'm so glad we didn't have HD and HT when I was in school. There's no way I'd have been able to concentrate on my studies if I had movies to watch or games to play! LOL

I need to find some of my college room pics and post them for laughs. I know I have one or two showing my setup (B&W TV, turntable, tape deck, etc.).

JJ- I think its time for some actual screenshots

I've had my eye on the same set through Amazon, still priced at $1950. Ideally, i only wanted to spend $1000ish on my next HDTV. However now it looks like i'm going to shatter that. Was looking into a 50" Panasonic 720P set for $870+tax. However this Pioneer deal has me scratching my head.

Agh - I suck at screenshots, me and my 5 year old camera are no good. My latest HT pictures came from my father's camera that I borrowed. I could do it with the tripod...hmm...

No issues at all whatsoever yet. None. No IR at all. The buzzing goes away. The blacks are gorgeous. The entire room is now pitch black except for the screen, which with my old LCD, would light up the back wall too. The 72Hz 3:3 is incredible for motion. I like to think I am now officially reference level. Movies - the pinnacle.

Are you kidding? Maybe you only had 'enough space' to tattoo Kuro. I'm going to tattoo Pioneer Kuro PDP-5020FD Plasma.

Haha, I joke, I joke, I kid, I kid.

It's true what they say, that once you go black you never go back!

(to LCDs, that is)

It does look gorgeous along with the VSX-03.

ROTFLMFAO!!! "Once you go black you never go back!" Thats the best, nice job JJ. All those LCDers have no idea what a perfect picture really is.

So true. I love how they always use the "Both display technologies have their pros and cons" argument. Yes, they do, but that argument does NOT apply when you are talking strictly picture quality. I guess some folks are simply satisfied to have an 'okay' picture. I know I'm not. I love my TH58PE75U, and it is a significant upgrade over my previous set, but I know the blacks are not even close to those of a Kuro or even an 800U. That's okay, for now, but I will be upgrading before the end of the year.

Have to agree with you. Just bought the Samsung PN50A450(720P Plasma), and i personally think the PQ is better than that of my 46" 1080P LCD.

I was truly blown away looking at how clean the PQ was. The blacks were DEFINATELY better and the colors looked more realistic to me.

Im definately buying plasma from now on!
