I loved it ever since I saw it in the theater. It's the kind of movie that I re-watch every year.

I could never finish it. It's like being on a sugar rush. It's also too long. Could've done with a half hour less.

I love every single Wachowski film to bits, apart from Jupiter Ascending which I thought was decent but not quite up to snuff with the rest of their catalog.

The movie was just two or three years too early in my opinion. If it had been made in 2010 or 2011 instead of 2008 then it would almost certainly have been in 3D and better for it. The movie's visual style and staging, with the emphasis on different visual planes, would have made it perfect for 3D. I still have a fondness for oddball big-budget flops that do at least have more idiosyncrasies and heart than most studio product. I can picture a similar debate about Valerian in a few years.

Asking an open forum if a movie is good or bad is a never ending debate.

For me, I enjoyed SR and will probably watch it again.

My GF and I both enjoyed Speed Racer when we saw it in theater. Got the BD for cheap at Big Lots, but haven't rewatched it yet.

BTW, for those who watch YouTube movie news / review shows, Beyond the Trailer's Grace Randolph is a pretty big fan. She mentions the movie now and again.

As for other recent Wachowski-ness, I have Cloud Atlas, but haven't watched it (picked it up for cheap on BF). Jupiter Ascending is trash, and not even the enjoyable kind.

I remember feeling kinda apathetic about Speed Racer; didn't dislike it but definitely didn't care all that much for it, either. Probably due for a rewatch at some point. Cloud Atlas just got added to Netflix, should give that another go as well (had the same reaction to that movie as well).

Haven't seen it in years but did enjoy it but yes it absolutely would've been incredible to see in 3D.

You know, I went in with a preconceived notion it wasn't going to be very good, but I really liked it on my 65". Colors and picture just friggin' popped. If this ever gets a rework I'll probably pick it up.

Massive fan of all things Speed Racer (have all the old VHS tapes, then dvd and now naturally the beautiful BD set/series, framed poster in man cave, toy mach 5 cars, etc, hell, I have a red #5 decal on my fav white guitar because it reminds me of the car lol)...and I thought this was crap-ola. Nice to look at? I know there's a TON of dudes that love eye candy flicks despite being bad, I get it, but I'm not on that list. This was a klunker IMO, even hated the casting - I mean Speed was a teen yet they casted actors nearly old enough to be his grandparents as his parents, heh. Big disappointment.

This film was more of a lame stereotype on what the US "thinks" is anime than an adaption of the original Speed story.

Anyone who's actually seen or read Speed Racer would know that it's not ridiculous over-the-top eye-gouging neon vomit. And not really a bright and peppy series either considering some episodes got dark (anyone actually remember the episode where a son of a racer nearly drives his sister to madness trying to get revenge for his father's death?).

Also, find it funny how the only Asian representation here in an adaption of a Japanese property are a family that turns out to be sell-outs to the big bad white dude....and it's up for the daughter to go and beg to the Caucasian family to save the day.

And who the f***ing hell thought it was a good idea to cast a buff dude as Sparky?!
