Excellent! Can't wait for this! Now if they can only get Mad Max: Fury Road into production...

MGM has U.S. rights for the first film.

Yeah, they do. Something's fishy with this rumor.

And too bad, because I would LOVE to see the other two 'Mad Max' movies on BD. The first got a spiffy new DVD but 'Beyond Thunderdome' is pretty elderly now, and at any rate even a nice DVD is no match for what 'Mad Max 2' looks like in high def.

That's what I was thinking. Maybe Warner managed to get the rights?

I digress, it would be great to get the first one on Blu-Ray, since it and Road Warrior are my favorite Mad Max movies (I like Beyond Thunderdome, but it's much weaker than the first two, IMO).

I remember this. Wasn't the late Heath Ledger the prime candidate for MAX in this movie?

Great news. Hope it has the original Aussie track on it.

Not a fan of the dubbed version

I hadn't heard about Heath in the role. Only thing I remember is that George Miller was looking to cast a Hollywood 'Unknown' if in fact Mel wouldn't return to the role. Wouldn't it be great if Gibson would take the role and have one last 'go' at Rockatansky though??? I think he'd be 'Mad' not to!

Fury Road? Only of real interest if they manage to somehow get Gibson in it.

I don't know if it was re-scanned...but it looks good enough for me.

By the way, KDO, where you referring to the yellow speckles?
Sorry to hear that you're not happy with the results...Yes, I did notice some yellow speckling/staining on the print (most notably at about 11:18 during the scene in which Max is pursuing, and closing in on, the Night Rider), but there's other bits of print defects here and there as well (like a quick, dark gritty line that goes across almost the entire frame when Max and Jessie are laying in the grass and talking while on their vacation. I should note that the same line appeared on the DVD, though it wasn't as noticeable, possibly due to the lower resolution). The yellow speckling however, I did not see at all on the DVD, after close comparison. The overall image is a tad bit darker, but for the better (and personally I found it so minimal, I barely noticed it). Anyway, I'm very happy with it, and as I said before, I didn't think it would look this nice, but that's just my take on it, others may disagree.

Default 10/5 gets fatter with Mad Max..........

From thedigitalbits.........

Any Mad Max fans out there? Well, MGM and Fox are releasing the original 1979 classic on Blu-ray+DVD Combo Pack on 10/5 (SRP $24.99). Don't expect much in the way of extras, but it will be good at least to finally have an HD transfer of the film on disc. Were it any other Mel Gibson film, this would be galactically bad timing given recent... *ahem* news. But with Max Max, it's oddly appropriate.
