Default Punisher: War Zone

This is by far the most excited I have personally been about a blu-ray. I am a die-hard fan of the character, in comic form. I was very disappointed in the 2004 film (not the blu-ray disc [I wouldn't even waste my money on that]). This film is the most accurate, loyal, and respectful adaptation of the film to be created yet. Ray Stevenson's performance was better than any Punisher fan could ever hope. The action gives Rambo a run for its money, in terms of graphic violence. As far as movies go, I'd take this over Rambo any day.

Of course, I wish it was an extended edition, but what can you do? Anybody see this in theaters? Who's picking it up?

looks like the audio alone will make this blu worth renting.

I saw this in the theater.....I was the only one in the theater. I'm sitting there talking to my brother on my cell phone while watching it. The movie itself...not so good.

I'm sure this is the case with many comic adaptations, but if you follow the comics at all, the 2004 film is an utter abortion.

War Zone is more than I could have ever wanted from a Punisher film.

This is a reboot, rather than a sequel. I assure you Jane is not missed. Stevenson IS the Punisher.

I was planning on buying it ... they need to make all these comic book movies R and just pump them full of violence.

I thought the guy who played the punisher was good, the guy who played Jigsaw and his brother, not so much.

The thing about Jigsaw is that he is also a goofball in the comic books. From someone who has read many Jigsaw arcs, they were very loyal to the character. The recruitment scene was hilarious. I think too many people went in expecting a performance they could compare to Health Ledger's joker. Coincidentally, Dominic West's performance is closer to Jack Nicholson's joker.

The Marvel Knights run of the early 2000's is the basis for the film. It was filled with tongue in cheek humor. The film captures that perfectly. People who haven't read that run might not get it. You have to give Lexi Alexander credit for being so loyal to the fans.

I was wondering about that so thanks for pointing that out. I liked the first one so it'll be interesting to see how it goes with the reboot. With Hulk I liked/disliked things in both versions so I'm expecting the same sort of thing here.

I saw this in theaters. Never watched the original one, or read the comic books. I actually liked it, really didnt think I would. The guy getting rocket launchered while jumping across the roof was bad ass.

It's not a reboot. This film is based on the Marvel Knights storyline. Marvel Knights is darker, more violent, and uses more language.

I don't quite understand your post. This film is a reboot. Completely ignores the last film. It tells the Punisher's origin accurately.

I know it is based on the Marvel Knights run. I already said that, but you are incorrect about the language. There was no language in the Marvel Knights run, because Marvel had not yet created the MAX line of comics. MAX is where the real violence and language began. The Marvel Knights run was filled with tongue-in-cheek humor and over the top villains. This is the main source of inspiration for the film.

Word... and I've said the exact same thing about Stevenson.

Anybody dissing this never followed the comic books, period.

I have purchased a grand total of 3 BD's (I usually just rent from Netflix). Dark KNight, Bolt and this and I bought it after I rented it from Netflix I loved it so much.

Is it an Oscar winner, no, but it's good action film that's VERY well acted (especially if you understand the characters in the comic) despite what the critics say and the level of violence and gore is exactly on par with the source material.

It is at least as good as Hulk 2008.

Couldn't have said it better.

People that understand the Punisher are finally coming around and giving this movie the props it deserves.

The little girls out there can keep your pre-conceived notion about superheroes (Punisher is a self-loathing, tortured anti-hero and not hero... D'oh!) and keep your Spiderman, Fantastic Four, Superman, and even your Iron Man.. we'll take the brutality incarnate that is Frank Castle.
