Default Poltergeist/The Birds being remade

Wow, Poltergeist is one of my favorite movies from my younger days, definitely a classic for sure. Same with Hitchcock's The Birds, although I was very young when I saw this. Here's an article about news concerning a remake of both of these-

Yet another example of movies that are being re-made that do not need to be.

Nothing wrong with either of those films.

Totaly agree with everyone, no reasons what so ever to remake these movies or reboot them as everyone is so fond of saying these days

"They" have done enough re-makes for goodness sakes.... These are classics & that's the way I want them.

Is this another example that original thoughts or the fear of failure of original thoughts are not being done? I'm sick and tired of remakes, trying to play on peoples memories of good works that were done. If they want to do a remake try a movie that completly flopped and remake that into a hit but leave the classics alone. They usually screw them up and I can't stand it. Be original for FRAK sake!

Plus, rereleasing them = INSTANT PROFIT! Just a little money in the restoration and marketing/distribution. Remaking is vastly more expensive.

Generalizing here:
Sadly many people won't watch "old" movies, with stars they don't recognize. To someone 30 & under who never sought out older films, anything made before the late 80's is old & not really on their radar.

If people would quite going to see all these remakes and let them fail at the box office Hollywood might stop making them. But as long as the generate revenue the producers and studios will take "the easy way out."

I'm officially placing a curse on both of these movie that every one involved, especially George Clooney will meet with future career failure...bwwaahahahahaha.

Default Poltergeist Remake.

Hey,

A TERRIBLE IDEA, IMO.

A Re-make is set, its got a a release date.

Quote:
For the last year now, we’ve been hearing rumblings of a Poltergeist remake over at MGM. Last August we told you that the studio had hired Juliet Snowden and Stiles White, the team behind the modern horror classic (sarcasm) Boogeyman to write the screenplay. And we soon after learned that House of Sand and Fog director Vadim Perelmen was in talks to helm the unnecessary remake.

But until a release date is announced, I sometimes tend to convince myself that these projects could easily find their way into the depths of development hell. Until there is a production start, or a release date, the movie really doesn’t exist. Well, I have some bad news. MGM has announced a release date. According to Shock, the “studio” has slated the haunted house remake for November 24th 2010. No further details have been released at this time.

ENJOY.

ShockTillYouDrop.com reports that MGM's planned remake of Tobe Hooper's classic '80s haunted house movie Poltergeist has received a release date of November 24, 2010, Thanksgiving weekend.

Vadim Perelman (House of Sand and Fog) has been attached to direct since last September.

The original was produced and co-written by Steven Spielberg. Two sequels were produced.

I thought The Birds had already been remade, but I don't see anything but the original on IMDB. Am I mistaken?

Ugh, Poltergeist is one of the great horror films that cannot be made better by a watered down remake. Pass. I will watch the original any day, I don't care how good the new one will be.

I'm not saying a remake of Poltergeist can't be good. I just can't fathom a single reason to remake it.

Dear God. How depressing. Although the Birds sucked so I don't care about that one.
