I am not wild about this movie. I think it will be a flop. Only good thing, the original will be put out in blu.

Default Red Dawn (2011?)

I put the year 2011 on the subject heading, but it's not going to be out this year due to it being an MGM Film.

Quote:
Wolver—!!!! Whoa, whoa, not so fast there, kids. At least, not if MGM doesn’t get its shit together very soon, anyway. As with “The Hobbit” films and the Bond movies, the fate of Dan Bradley’s directorial debut, the remake of “Red Dawn” currently hangs in limbo, all thanks to MGM’s money woes. Although the film itself has been in production for a while now up North, the current news is that the film’s initial November release date has disappeared in a puff of smoke, and the remake has now been cast into the land of TBA — To Be Announced.
The remake, which stars Chris Hemsworth as a Middle East war vet who returns home only to discover that the Communist Chinese have teamed up with the Russkies to invade the homeland, recently came under fire by some Chinese media about its portrayal of China as the film’s main villains. That, basically, guarantees that you can forget about China and Hong Kong as potential markets for the film. Of course, considering MGM’s current financial straits, the Chinese is the last thing the film should worry about at the moment.
“Red Dawn” stars a list of notable young actors, including Hemsworth, Adrianne Palicki (recently in “Legion”), Josh Peck, Josh Hutcherson, Isabel Lucas, and Connor Cruise, son of Tom. It also marks the directorial debut of Bradley, who has done second unit work on the “Bourne” films, and word had him bringing the same kind of kinetic shooting style to his remake.
I say; "BURN THE FILM AND ACT AS IF IT NEVER EXISTED!"

I agree, this is one film that doesn't need to be remade... It will NEVER live up to the original... It was a way different world when the original was made and well, I just don't think that they'll be able to(or even try to, for that matter) capture the feel and message of the original...

Another remake that has no reason to exist.
I don't blame the Chinese Government for being pissed.
Karate Kid is another remake with no reason to exist.
Hollywood Studios are so lame when it comes to desiding what to do next.
Oh wait ...... they should do a remake of The Great Escape and The Devils Brigade and do them properly.

MGM: 'Red Dawn' Remake Still Slated for November
Quote:
So, has MGM's "Red Dawn" remake been shelved or not?

The L.A. Times says yes; TheWrap is being told no by the studio.

According to a report in the Times Friday morning, Dan Bradley's redo of John Milius' 1984 original is in the can but has been delayed indefinitely from its scheduled Nov. 24 release due to MGM's uncertain future.

But when TheWrap contacted the studio, its head of marketing, Mike Vollman, was adamant the the movie is "still dated for Nov. 24." He had no comment regarding the Times report besides pointing out that it didn't quote anyone from MGM.

If "Red Dawn" has, in fact, been delayed indefinitely, it's just the latest project to be affected by MGM's financial woes .

Sam Mendes' "Bond 23" was put on indefinite hiatus earlier this year, and Guillermo del Toro recently left the director's chair of "The Hobbit," which MGM has still not greenlit.

MGM was also the original studio behind the Kevin James comedy "The Zookeeper," but Sony will now distribute that movie next summer.

Aside from its soundtrack, "Red Dawn" has been completed, but the up-for-sale studio is awaiting a buyer or an investor willing to pay for the marketing and distribution of its movies, or take them off its hands. Until one of those things happens, the fate of "Red Dawn" will remain up in the air.

"Red Dawn" stars Chris Hemsworth ("Thor"), Josh Hutcherson ("Journey to the Center of the Earth"), Josh Peck ("The Wackness"), Adrianne Palicki (TV's "Friday Night Lights"), Jeffrey Dean Morgan ("Watchmen") and Connor Cruise (son of Tom).

The alleged delay wouldn't necessarily be a bad move for the project. If "Red Dawn" is released after "Thor" makes Hemsworth a bigger household name, there could be more money to be made -- especially if Hutcherson lands the coveted role of Peter Parker in Sony's "Spider-Man" reboot, as has been rumored.

Which leaves the 3D horror film "Cabin in the Woods," the only other movie on MGM's release schedule.

Drew Goddard ("Lost") directs from a script he co-wrote with "Avengers" director Joss Whedon. The film stars Richard Jenkins, Bradley Whitford and Hemsworth (again).

"Cabin" is set to open on Jan. 14, 2011, having already been pushed back once. It was originally scheduled for a Feb. 5, 2010, release before the studio decided to convert the creature feature to 3D.

It's still on the shelf. The only news I read after WyldeMan45's post is: The script was leaked, some Chinese newspapers got a hold of it and apparently weren't too thrilled.

"On the topic of the controversy brought up by the film (which hasn’t been shown publicly, mind you) there were strong words from a state-run Chinese paper after the script recently leaked out.

U.S. reshoots Cold War movie to "demonize China" and "American movie plants hostile seeds against China", were the headlines last week in the Global Times, published out of Beijing. Articles went on to say that the film has roots in a deep American fear of Chinese power. "China can still feel U.S. distrust and fear, especially among its people. Americans’ suspicions about China are the best ground for the hawks to disseminate fear and doubt, which is the biggest concern with the movie 'Red Dawn,'" went one piece.

China and the film’s producers aren’t the only irritated parties here. A New Yorker blog says "Before we begin hearing about the "hurt feelings of the Chinese people," I would point out that this film also hurts the feelings of some American people who know we can do better than this."

And based on the script, The Awl calls Red Dawn “probably the most unnecessary, irresponsible, Sinophobic film in America’s history, and that’s saying a lot…The film is, indeed, just a film. Or as the MGM executive I spoke with described it: "just an action film." Nonetheless, it is a bald example of how one-dimensionally America generally, at all levels, thinks about China and Chinese people.

So now I need to read the script. I love how, in the face of and possibly directly in response to this controversy, some conservative press is ready to embrace the film as a hard-core anti-Communist update of the original, though I have doubts that it will really take such a hard line in the final edit. The days of John Milius are (perhaps sadly) in the past."

.....their newspapers are State-run, so.....eh hem.....they can be mad alllllllllll they want, as if they haven't released movies that glorify certain aspects of their 'point-of-view'. I'll refrain from saying anything more. Wolverines!

The fact that the article I posted last month mentions that they might shelve it to wait for Thor so they can have a "name" star..........that is just beyond ridiculous and WAY TO FAR out of a release time frame. I hope that all ends up being bullshit, but if it really was still planned for 4 months from now, why haven't we seen a single image of the cast, or even a teaser yet. So I fear those rumors might be true.........

Since this is America, I must file a lawsuit against you for mental anguish and loss of time at work due to the mental stress I sustained in clicking your false link, I was unable to go forward.
