Arrow Red Dawn Reboot

Quote:
RED DAWN freaked me out as an 11 year old kid. I remember the hard hitting film being the first movie released under the PG-13 rating. So Carl Ellsworth who wrote one of my favorite all time spec scripts (RED EYE) did his take on a present day Red Dawn.

The original "Red Dawn" was the Cold War brainchild of writer-director John Milius, who devised a World War III invasion of America by the Soviets and Cubans. The film followed the scrappy insurgency of a group of Midwestern teenagers who take on their high school mascot name -- "Wolverines!" -- as a rallying cry of resistance.

Who invades us this time around?

Find out the answer below along with my thoughts on the script in the very cool episode which was exec produced by Kellvin, narrated by Edgar "El Toro" Arce, and hilariously edited by Stuart Benedict.
Click on the pic to see the video talking about the script:

I'm not to keen on the new idea of the United States being attacked by the Chinese. Like the script reviewer said North Korea would have been much more plausible. I really enjoyed in the original how these where just your typical small town high school kids, who had a hunting background and where able to share that with there friends in order to survive. But now they've made Jed originally played by Patrick Swayze a 22 discharged Marine veteran of the Iraq War? I also don't like how they've narrowed down the casting so much, Danny played by Brad Savage is now "Danny the 17 year old African American Wide Receiver" and Erica played by Lea Thompson is now Erica Yu the 17 year old Asian American knockout captain of the cheerleading squad. So they have also eliminated her sister from this originally played by Jennifer Grey, considering both girls where in hiding under the floor and that's how they all first met and now she is the outgoing Cheerleading Captain of their high school?? So now that Jed is a war veteran he puts them through training and they actually use IPhones for recon work? I was hoping it would be set in the past still so we didn't see all these cell phones and crap. I just do not know what the hell to think about this update now. I had actually thought there was a chance it could be really good. The only hope now is the director and writer. They did hire some interesting guys for those roles. So only casting and a trailer will tell now.

I also find it funny that they mentioned this movie is going to have more violence and action than the original because here's a fun fact for ya - the original film was entered into the Guinness Book of Records as having the most acts of violence of any film up to that time. It was calculated that on average an act of violence occurs at a rate of 134 per hour or 2.23 per minute.

Do Not Want.

I can get over a lot of crappy Hollywood reboots, but if you're going to try Red Dawn you better do it right. I'm not finding any right in here.

Exactly, usually I don't mind a reboot if it's done right, but this from right out of the gate sounds terrible.

Having that much GPS when you're in hiding, seems like a great idea right? And why do I get the feeling there is going to be the small town white gangsta with his flat billed hat and stickers shooting a glock sideways.........

Maybe they'll be the new G6 IPhones that scramble traces. Or one of the kids is a genius nerd that can fix them to where they won't be traced.

But how can they hide there body heat?

If you've ever been in an outdoor store, you know in the hunting section they make scent blocker clothing, so I'm sure Abercrombie will make heat blocking urban camo made from A&F logos clothing for this movie, with pre-popped collars for extra style and extra heat shield! Cause nothing scares foreign invaders quite like a hip white kid with 2 popped collas and a sideways glock........YAY BOOOOIIII

Actually, that's a good move switching from Russia to China, considering they're buying up most of our debt and will most likely invade us sooner or later anyway.

However, a better choice would've been Mexico.....hey ohhhhh.....

Actually, China is MUCH more plausible.

For starters, NK, like China, does not have a Navy or Air Force that could move any number of troops anywhere. The difference is China has drastically been expanding their Navy and Air Force capabilities.

Secondly, NK has a tiny standing army and a starving population when placed against China's 200 million man Army.

Third, China has been posturing for a long time on their territorial rights (claiming the water 600 miles from their coast belongs to them, Taiwan etc). China has been flexing their military muscle over these kinds of issues recently.

Lastly, China has a LOT of the worlds manufacturing ability at hand RIGHT NOW. That means they can start pumping out equipment without building anything, while most of the rest of the world would be scrambling to catch up...

Anyone who is not worried about China's growing military power and ridiculous posturing and territorial claims is ignorant.

I see one problem with this remake. Where will Hollywood find enough chinese actors/extras for this project. I mean Hollywood did star 2 non-asians to play the major characters in The Forbidden Kingdom & Dragonball Evolution, right.

I remember a long time ago I was talking to the Commanding Officer of School of Infantry, and I asked what the next war would be (a week after 9-11).

He said, the next conflict will be the middle east, next war will be with China, and we will have to keep it cold, go nuclear or lose.

IMO, the only thing stopping a war with China is both sides know it would go nuclear in the first few engagements.

Arrow Red Dawn More Casting...

Update July 24

SDCC Exclusive: Kurt Russell in Talks for Red Dawn!

Quote:
ComingSoon.net exclusively learned today at the San Diego Comic-Con that Kurt Russell is talks to star in Red Dawn, the MGM remake scheduled for a September 24, 2010 release.

To be directed by Dan Bradley, the war film's cast includes Chris Hemsworth (Star Trek, upcoming Thor), Josh Peck and Adrianne Palicki (upcoming Legion).

The original Red Dawn was the Cold War brainchild of writer-director John Milius, who devised a World War III invasion of America by the Soviets and Cubans. The film followed the scrappy insurgency of a group of Midwestern teenagers who take on their high school mascot name -- "Wolverines!" -- as a rallying cry of resistance.
I've always been a fan of Kurt Russell. If he jumps on board, that's as good as a ticket in hand for me.

Josh Peck and Adrianne Palicki Join the Red Dawn Remake

Quote:
Wolverines!! MGM's remake of Red Dawn is moving forward at full speed. Joining the cast are young actors Josh Peck and Adrianne Palicki who will star alongside of Star Trek actor Chris Hemsworth. On top of that, they've announced that Dan Bradley, a stunt coordinator and second-unit director on The Bourne Ultimatum and Quantum of Solace, will be making his directorial debut with Red Dawn. Peck will play Matt Eckert, the role originally played by Charlie Sheen, and brother of Hemsworth's Jed Eckert and quarterback of the high school football team. Palicki will play Toni, a "tough fighter" the brothers encounter.

The updated screenplay, which is supposedly set in modern day instead, was written by Jeremy Passmore and Carl Ellsworth (Disturbia, Last House on the Left). I know there are more than a few of you out there who were hoping this Red Dawn remake would die a slow a death before every getting made. Unfortunately that's not going to happen, but at least we have some bright young faces to lead the way. Don't think too hard about these three actors - just remember that in the original Red Dawn in 1984, Patrick Swayze and Charlie Sheen were unknowns, too. Maybe this could turn out pretty damn good in the end? Wolverines!!

Just googled Adrianne Palicki and she's got some nude photoshoots. Anyways, not really excited about the Chinese thing, I think that's ridiculous. Well, I think anyone actually invading the USA is ridiculous, but I'm kinda looking forward to seeing the movie.
