Thank you. This thread is so ridiculous. I'm sick of hearing best vs. favorite. It's the same damn thing.

looking at peoples choices
its clearly not the same thing (most times)

while its true there is no definitive best movie ever, people can give their opinions of what they think to be the best movie ever
to which some people can be objective and classify a film as the best ever even though it is not their favorite of all time.

many members have listed their believed best films ever created and those are not their favorites

just because you think a film is the best ever doesnt mean it has to be your favorite

edit: i didnt mean that to sound as if i was bashing you for your post or anything, sorry if you thought it sounded that way, i was just making a counterpoint to your statement

I don't mean to sound rude either, though I probably did, simply because I've seen this exact discussion on all types of message boards, and in daily conversation, and it makes zero sense to me.

Again, not to be rude, but I don't see how this can make sense. The best film I have ever seen is The Fountain and, is therefore, my favorite movie. A question I pose to people here is: why on earth would the film you think is best not be your favorite? And in reverse, why would your favorite movie not be what you think is the best film ever made?

The two go hand in hand. For instance, one might say...
BEST: The Godfather
FAVORITE: Dumb & Dumber

While The Godfather is certainly the more respected and prestigious of the two, there's absolutely no reason you can't say Dumb & Dumber is the better film, because it's all about how that films works TO YOU. If it accomplishes what it sets out to do, in your eyes, than it's better (and your favorite).

My thoughts.

My thoughts.
you make a valid point

i guess most people would classify the best as having better acting, directing, score, cinematography, etc.
and their favorite as just the one they had the most fun watching

thats not how everyone would classify it but i believe some would do it like that

my own choices arent exactly logical though
i have a tough call between several films that i think are the best ever made:

Thanks. I think that's the whole notion I'm getting at, and I see it from your side as well. I think favorite and most fun are two totally different things.

when thinking of it that way do you have an answer for the thread question or would your answer still be one movie?

+1

if we all could be objective about "best movie", we'd all give the same answer

Ring of the Nibelungs (uncut) is as many times better than LotR as Babylon 5 is better than Star Trek. Some say Tolkien's yarn was based on the source material for the Ring of the Nibelungs (Norse myth which was also btw made into an opera by Wagner).

If you've seen the film in the U.S. release, it's cut by like an hour or more. I don't understand why they cut it so much.
