I saw this last night and it was very good, very plausable, no silly action scenes. At the end I believed this could/did happen.

that may sound odd but i always feel that it's a bad start to end up watching a crappy movie.
one of the reasons i don't do first dates with a movie
It definitely is true. I'm glad we decided on this, instead of my planned viewing of Skyline with her.

Yet another movie ruined by the God awful shaky cam virus that is ruining movie after movie like an unstopable plague.

I don't agree. I felt it really added to the movie, and made the train look like it was going fast.

Cause, ya know, while filming, Denzel wasn't jumping around on a train going 80 MPH.

True. Even with the shaky cam effect, there were instances where you could tell the train was not going faster than 5 mph .

According to Denzel, for at least one scene he was on top the train with his harness while it was moving fast

Which is exactly the problem with shaky cam. Its lazy childish cinematography used to hide the flaws in the image. In other words shaky cam is a great excuse for a filmmaker to not do there job. Shaky cam in this movie made me sick and turned an otherwise good movie into an unwatchable nightmare.

I saw it and I thought it was ok at best. The movie is good for what it is, not bad, but it really doesn't offer too much beyond that.
[Show spoiler] I was hoping there would be another element to this movie because there isn't a whole lot you can do with a run a way train. If there is a large accident the train will derail or explode. Even though I didn't think they would have gone with a dark ending, half way through the movie I was hoping that the train truly would have been unstoppable and a big disaster would have happened in the end instead of the typical happy Hollywood ending. Had they gone with a disastrous ending, it would have redeemed the movie for me and I could have left with a much better impression. To bad it was just such a happy ending.

Glad you had a good time.

I walked into Skyline after seeing this & where as I'd give UNSTOPPABLE 4.5 of 5 Stars, Skyline might get 1.5 or so. It had a couple decent creatures/special effects but few & far between
[Show spoiler]& was pretty much set in one place (the apartment building) <---not a spoiler really, as "things" are going on around the world but we only see this one core group of people & how they deal with it.

Correct. He was on Letterman & Leno this past week & he reported that aside from some Long Shots, he Was on Top of the train doing a few of the Closer filmed scenes, with a thin metal wire attached. He said he asked how far he would fall if he slipped (& this Was on a train doing about 50mph btw), & they said, "you won't hit the ground" ! (cue audience laugh) Then he said, "yea, but How Far will I fall?!" It was pretty funny. I thought Denzel & Chris Pine worked very well together, some nice interaction, & Rosario Dawson was good also as the Dispatcher; more than just a "side" role really.

Very good movie, should be fun on blu'. 4.5 of 5 Stars from me.

Saw this today and it was really good. Scott and Denzel have yet to let me down, and Chris Pine was good as well. He and Denzel had great chemistry. The movie was paced well, and it was just a good time at the theater. Scott didn't do a lot of his shaky cam in this one either, which was very pleasing. I don't mind it sometimes, but Scott seemed to rely on it too heavily over the past few years. Glad it was toned down in this movie. One of the better movies to come out this year. It's definitely worth checking out. I'll get it when it comes out on blu.

Saw it today. Thought it was great

Some good tension when it needed to be there (most of the film), some humor to give you a little relief every now and then and some strong performances by Washington and Pine.

I enjoyed it much more than I anticipated that I would.

Not sure of the replay value, so I don't know if I'll buy it, but I definitely want to see it at least one more time at some point.

4. Unstoppable (Fox) Week 3 [3,183 Runs]
Wednesday $1.9M, Thursday $2.5M, Friday $4.5M
Estimated 3-Day Weekend $12M, 5-Day Holiday $16.5M, Cume $61M

At first, Fox film mogul Tom Rothman despaired that yet another of his studio's movies was struggling this terrible year. But now, perhaps, he can stop *****ing and moaning and burying his face in his hands. Though slow off the mark, this old-fashioned Tony Scott-directed thriller derided as "Speed-on-a-train" is testament to the importance of word of mouth and Denzel Washington's impressive staying power as a box office star. Its opening weekend "A-" CinemaScore helps as well as solidly above-average exit polls across all demographics to give 20th Century Fox reason to still hope for a long run and decent multiple off of a meager $23.5M opening. Audiences have been very balanced by gender and are skewing older.

I'm happy to see that this movie is suddenly performing well, I thought it was going to have a similar run the The Taking Of Pelham 1 2 3.

I thought it was Scott's best movie in a while. My only real complaint is in the third act where they cut away from the action to the unnecessary sentimental family shots.

The wife and I saw this movie today. Thought it was great. Much better than I expected it to be. Denzel never really disappoints me anyway.

Unstoppable was Tony Scott's final film before he died in 2012. Chris Pine, Denzel Washington deal with a runaway train after a goofball worker gets the train engine running, but forgets to be on the train by time it starts taking off. He can't catch up, and all hell begins. Interesting film.

EDIT: Okay, Unstoppable was good, though not great or amazing, but for a movie about two guys trying to stop a runaway train, I'd say it has some good pacing and mild tension, the stakes are very clear as to what happens if they can't stop the train, so good stuff there, loud and clear. It's a basic film about tension, similar to the concept of Speed with Keanu Reeves. Mildly entertaining but good for a train film. It could've been cool in the beginning to see more scenic views of how beautiful the state of PA can be with the scenery, but nothing like that occurred. Then it could switch up to the faster cuts and frantic camera work that the film mostly contains to keep things more exciting. Good job though. 3/5
