I frequent this forum and I had no idea of these issues. So I am grateful for this thread.

I like this thread. We will be able to see an "accurate" mindset of the masses. I use accurate very loosely.

I am waiting to see if a redo happens.

It's a reference title and deserves a reference transfer.

Perhaps when the price drops or it goes on sale I may get it

i wouldn't care if it costs a dollar no buy!there has to a point where you say no to any crappy bd.why even have blu-ray if your gonna settle for less.i don't understand why anybody would buy a crappy bd even for less.the point is the studios need to know they can't pass off bad pq and put blu-ray on the package.one way to do that is don't buy it and hurt them where they will feel it ''in the pocketbook''.

There...that is easier to read.

Could you possibly be anymore dramatic? You haven't even seen the disc yet. Yes, it does appear that there are some issues with this disc and that is very disappointing. Does it appear to be the worst transfer in history? No.

Everyone needs to take a step back from the ledge and remember what we are talking about here. A movie...a disc...something relatively minor in the grand scheme of our lives.

OK....you need to think about the big picture here....this has been stated several times....the consumers that are aware of this issue likely make up the minority of total customers buying this. This is a HUGE release and because members on forums do not buy it will likely not entice the studios to spend more money to re-release it when they'll make major profits from everyone else. I'm not saying I don't hope the issues are fixed, I'm just trying to look at it from a realistic perspective. If anything, I would guess the professional reviews (if negative) would speak more to studios than a few hundred people on a forum (although of course I don't know, I'm just speculating).

And for the record, people don't just buy blu-rays because of the upgraded PQ/AQ. That is the main selling point of blu-ray, but people also buy movies because they enjoy watching them. Calling this a "crappy bd release" seems pretty ludicrous...it's not like this a barebones, theatrical only release. It includes both cuts and loads of special features not to mention great sound. Again, I hope all the issues are resolved, but I think some people are really blowing this out of proportion...as many have stated, rent it first to judge for yourself

i can't believe people are taking up this "i'm gonna wait for a better release" and "hit them where it hurts, their pocketbook" attitude w/this movie.

does anyone really think that will get anywhere??? b/c the majority of the blu-ray owners out there are not like this. they want a movie on blu and will buy it.

they aren't scowering online threads looking for the latest info on a transfer or what surround sound it's gonna have.

i would be willing to bet if u went to a place like best buy and asked 20 random people buying this movie if they could tell u what HD track it had.

and that's what the studio is aiming for, the mass majority of people that will buy their movie. if they piss off a few by rushing a movie the overall majority want, so be it.

i'm not saying it's right, i'm just saying there's not a lot that can be done when u look @ it realistically.

I know I retracted my statement. Like I said, CMM shouldn't feel the need to defend it to me, it's his thread. I was just curious

For the price I'll pay for both Gladiator and Braveheart, if Gladiator is really that disappointing to me, I'll sell it on Amazon/eBay and probably make a small profit. I'll be there Tuesday

Was not going to buy it anyway. If I were, I would read about 4 reviews and see what the majority thinks. DVD Beaver seem to give it decent marks of PQ

I must agree with you. I am buying it as soon as I can get to Best Buy on Tuesday, and Braveheart will be a purchase for me that same day. If Ridley Scott had anything to do with Gladiator being put on blu-ray I have no worries. Blade Runner The Final Cut, I rest my case.

Mine is not to reason why sir, who am I? I digress..... My reply to those who doubt Gladiator will look good....

After Bill Hunt's review I will not be wasting my hard earned money on this sub-par effort. Gladiator is a movie I've been looking forward to for a long time on Blu so this is quite disappointing. Hopefully Paramount takes Bills suggestion and recalls the disks and creates a new HD transfer.

Braveheart, on the other hand, I'll be picking up tomorrow after his glowing review

I'll be at BB on Tuesday and may just randomly ask folks I see picking up Gladiator if they heard or read anything about the PQ. Now that may be an interesting poll. I bet the majority haven't and just cannot wait to watch the movie.
