Default OTA (new findings) (for me)

This morning I spoke to RAY(tech support at AUDIOVOX/Terk) re:
indoor antennas.

This is what I got.

Indoor antenna is totally hit and miss.
VHF is very, very hard to get. (in NYC: PBS, NBC HD)
The signal is very touch and go because of obstructions)

UHF, on the other hand is a lot easier to capture.

For example, in Queens I'm getting CBS HD(1080i) on 33.1 which (lol) is coming from Darien, Ct.

ALSO: ALL cable and sattelite companies compress 1080i tranmissions
to - - - - - - - 720p.

What I'm getting from Darien, Ct. is pure, uncompressed 1080i.(awesome PQ)

He was so happy for me, needless to say.

When I move to a higher floor with the Indoor Terk HDTVa, there's no sure thing that I'll get anything more . . . it's all a gamble.

That's my story and I'm stickin' to it....

I use this:

Best antenna I've had out of 6 other brands. It's not powered, yet out performs amplified antennas. I pick up stations from Dayton, OH in Columbus, OH ( over 60 miles away, UHF & VHF ). Here's a review/comparison that was in Home Theater Magazine: http://www.kowatec.com/prod/cis/doc/indoorDTV.pdf .

Zippo:

did you try the TERK at all. Was it amped? How come the Kowatec
fell under most radars? (except HT, that is)

NYC is a little harder market for INDOOR don't you think than Columbus?

Here's what I tried:

http://www.channelmasterstore.com/Di..._p/cm-4040.htm
http://www.terrestrial-digital.com/DB2.html

& a few others. The CS-102 would pull in channels that the others couldn't. After testing the CS=102, I gave the other antennas away to relatives.

The CS-102 is imported from Taiwan by Kowatec. Only a handful of places to buy it from online( very small distribution chain ). "NYC is a little harder market for INDOOR don't you think than Columbus?" True.

Unhappy I won't Know for sure till I Move . . .

Konnie from Kowatec sent me an e-mail stating you cannot buy it in a store
only on line with a credit card. The email came from area code 408. where is that?
How many stations did you GET with the HDTVa? And how many more did you get with the
Kowatec?

this was the email:

Dear Frank,

Currently you can purchase the indoor antenna CS-102 online from our website www.kowatec.com or www.buy.com. You can also call us to place the order.

Let me know if you need further information, I will be happy to assist you.

Best regards

Konnie

I'm just now am into my move to the 4th floor and a sky view to the Empire State Building . . . . (transmitter)

In a few days I'll know for sure if I need the Kowatec.
i just hate all this experimentation. But...
that's why they call it a hobby, right .?

They're located in San Jose, California. I've purchased about 4 from them over the last 2 years. I wish I had loaner I could lend you to test out.

Default ZIPPO!!! All Is Well!!!

The set up on the KOWATEC was simple. The thing is the size of the Reader's
Digest. It's wonderful. It took over 10 tries on AUTO PROGRAM on my Sony XBR . . but I was able to capture fifty-five (55!!!) channels perfectly here in NYC. I even was able to capture stations I never knew existed. ABC (7.3) is an ABC weather channel . . who needs The Weather Channel?

It took over 35 min. to capture a PBS channel here called Ch. 21 WLIW.(21.1)
But I got it. It's at 83 degrees as compared to the others at 283+ - degrees but
I learned the gimmick of how to view it should I ever need it.(simply turn the unit a little, even moving the 6' coaxial cable a tad brings it in and locks it in perfectly)

All I'm missing is SPORTS. Not A Problem, though . . I figured THAT one out too.

Thanks again ZIPPO for your help.
I'll never give Time-Warner another penny for as long as I live thanks to you.

It ALL worked out. My Terk(spaceship) is back in the box, neatly folded and out of sight . . dear lord, what an ugly contraption that Terk is.

It saddens me that KOWATEC is not widely known except for the HOME THEATER article.
If any reader is fed up with cable/sat . . then really really consider this amazing product that was designed in Silicone Valley . . (where else?)...USA brains, assembled elsewhere . . BUY IT!!!!

$35 + $9.00 same day shipping . .
