I love wikipedia. I often forget how fascinating it can be as a resource on topics that interest me. I read through the Rome entry today, and had it confirmed to me that the latter half of S2 was indeed a cram-job. I don't fault them for doing so, but I much prefer the more natural 5 year arc they promote. A messianic 5th season? That would have been awesome with the tone of this series.

I can't believe ROME is getting the BD treatment it deserves...and ahead of DEADWOOD...I never would have imagined that. I really wish ROME had the chance to play out like originally intended instead of the great first season and cram job second season. At least HBO informed them that they needed to wrap it up unlike CARNIVALE and DEADWOOD.

This will go on sale the week before xmas at Best Buy for 50% off. They have done the half off HBO sale for years now. I picked up Band Of Brothers for like $37 last year and will be getting Rome the same way this year.

I just got the two seasons for my dad on DVD, should have stayed tuned to bluray.com and I would've known this!!
...o well. Guess that why Ebay exists, to sell DVD's and replace them with BD's. |

I Love what he did with that character. He was a Lion. Even if he was sitting in the senate forum in aristocratic robes he was a soldier first. Loyal to his friends and "feared by his enemies" would be an understatement. Every single one of my favorite scenes in Rome involve him. He's a tour de Force. Like the one when he visits Vorenus' home by Pullo's request since Vorenus has lost his will to live and even thou Vorenus in no longer a soldier in active duty, he immediately stands at attention when Anthony enters his house. Vorenus insists he would kill himself, and that he's at the mercy of the God "Dis" to end his life since he's his master. Anthony, while literally breathing on his neck responds in the lowest and the same time scariest tone of voice: "You are wrong centurion. Dis is not your master. I am your master by sacred oath under the standards of the 13th". And when Vorenus' heart (along with the viewer's) is literally about to stop, He suddenly in a never seen before compassionate but heartfelt manner tells vorenus "No man is beyond redemption, not even you" I could go on and on. Gaul, Egypt, in my view, Purefoy's best performance ever, his portrayal of the Black Prince of England (even thou short) in "A Knight's Tale" coming in close second. And for the discs themselves, My wife got the DVD's for me as a present at HUGE discount from Costco for just $99 plus tax. I have the habit (some people consider it strange but I know you guys of all people understand) of never opening the shrink wrap of my DVDs and Blu-Ray movies but instead letting them sit on my shelf sealed and un-opened until the very moment of watching the movie comes. Sometimes that moment comes a couple of days after purchase, sometimes a couple of months and sometimes never comes. The Rome DVD seasons my wife gave me sat on my shelf for a couple of weeks and then I bought my ps3 and almost instantly decided that I would sell those rome seasons on ebay (here's when my strange habit of not opening shrink wraps always pays off), and wait for the blu ray release. I also sold on the same weekend all my star wars and lord of the rings dvd's for the same reason. I can't wait to have these Blu Rays on my shelf sealed and un-opened picking up dust. LOL Just kidding. Seriously....... that's just until one weekend I will unplug my phone, turn off my cellphone and treat my self to a Rome marathon for the ages. I wonder if the blu-ray will be in that nice type of wooden case like the DVD was. I mean they kept the packaging the same for BOB but just made it smaller. I like the packagine for Rome...I almost bought it on dvd just for tha packaging. It would be nice to get the same kind but I doubt it.
