I'm not entirely convinced those webisodes won't be on the set. Extras lists from press releases are known to have mistakes in them from time to time, and the "response" from Universal was a very pre-canned "We appreciate your input blah blah blah standard disclaimer" kind of thing. If an insider checked with the studio, hey I'd believe it, but I happen to not believe customer service reps.

If you're a true fanatic, you'll upgrade to Blu-ray. If you do plan on it, selling everything you have now is a good idea to using that towards the BD set. Everything will be an improvement over DVD, the Dolby TrueHD track for season one on HD DVD isn't bad.

Wouldn't Universal have DTS-HDMA as the codec on this?

It should be DTS-HDMA. I guess the HD DVD set had TrueHD.

When this set was first released, virtually no HD DVD player could fully decode DTS HD MA, it would only get DTS core. However, many of the players would decode TrueHD. Even now after HD DVD failed, only 2 players can bitstream all HD codecs. Primarily HD DVD imports used DTS HD HR and MA.

Either way, whether TrueHD or DTS HD MA is used, they should sound the same. Dialogue was clear but some of the battle scenes did seem a bit muffled, which I suspect is the way the original sound design was created.

Ah I get you. Yeah, I am guessing Season 1 will have lesser audio, but I hope the other seasons will have improved the audio quality.

It's already been announced that the complete series will be in DTS-HD MA, see the news here at blu-ray.com from 4/22/09. Universal must have completely redone what they put out for HD DVD. If memory serves, the reviews were only so-so on season 1 when it first came out. I'm sure it will look and sound great. I've had no complaints about what Universal has done so far.

That's probably because they're in space. They always muffled the effects in space shots. I have no doubts that the exodus from New Caprica in S3 will sound phenomenal!

Anyone know when a review will pop up? I know this site sometimes gets titles a week or more in advance (or at least some reviews come out before official release dates). I'm dying to know how the quality is - especially the audio.

My review of 'Season 4.5' posted ten minutes ago

As for the 'Complete Series,' I'm still waiting for a screener. However, I would imagine 'Season 4.5' is a solid indication of what you can expect from the box set! Thanks as always for posting.

The last couple of lines at the end of that review were great... "If you've been waiting for this box to start watching the show for the first time, boy do I envy you! Forget the silly name and the sci-fi trappings - TV drama just doesn't get much better than this. Battlestar on Blu-ray is the frakkin' BOMB!"

It's a shame I really can't afford this right now, with me having to spend money on a couple of other things. Hopefully it goes on sale sometime (I would expect by the holidays at the latest) because I would love to finally watch the series.

I really hate reading these kind of reviews, I really do!! It results in nothing but $220 bones jumping out of my pocket!!

I was going to wait before purchasing this, but now I can't wait until the 28th.

This Blu-ray habit is addictive. Now I know how a crack addict feels. Just one more boxset and I'll quit, really, trust me!

Yep, but Blu-Ray is completely safe and legal, unlike the real crack.

I'm just worried what the packaging for the Complete Series is like. The Digital Bits review says the disc holders are "all cardboard" and makes them sound really peculiar. I want real disc hubs to put the discs on - not cardboard sleeves to painfully pull discs out of and push them back into.

Razor (and the Extended Cut) are actually included in the complete set.

As for future content like "The Plan" (which is what you were probably thinking of), as Bill Hunt stated in his review, if you take the "Toaster" out of the core to display somewhere, it's a handy space to put that disc (plus maybe any mail-in discs that might include "The Face of the Enemy" webisodes) in.
