Hey CK,

I had been meaning to ask you, is there a reason you chose the RS1s over the RSFXs? I am a little torn between the two. I have heard the RS1s, and like them. I probably wouldn't get the chance to demo the RSFXs if I decided on them....

I went with stand mounted speakers at the time due to a lack of wall space for the RSFX. To this day though I have no remorse over choosing them over the RSFX. They are great speakers.

That is also a factor for me, because

A) I have the stands
B) Plaster walls...ughhh
C) Potentially moving the RS1s somewhere else later down the road, making for a nice sounding front.

I will probably end up with the RS1s because of the above, and I got to audition them. They do sound quite nice.

Loving the RS6s even more lately by the way, the amp has really opened them up. They are a little picky about their power, they really need the right power source.

I just sent out the money to purchase all of the speaker drivers to build my big mirror imaged line stage tower speakers and the center channel speaker. As I have mentioned in this and other threads, each mirror imaged line stage tower consists of 16 woofers, 8 soft dome tweeters, and 8 soft dome midrange drivers for a total of 32 drivers per tower. The center channel speaker will be basically half as tall with half the number of drivers as the mirror imaged towers.

Work on the 3 speakers should hopefully start in the middle of August. It is going to take many months to prepare and finish the speakers. They will be made in an automotive or what could be considered a Piano Black. All of the speaker drivers will be visible without any speaker covers to impede the audio performance. I hope that the house and the listening/home theater room will be completed to bring the new speakers into listening/home theater room in December.

The side surround speakers and the rear channel speakers for the 7.1 surround speakers will be prepared and based upon the main towers and built hopefully starting in around February or March. The side surrounds will probably consist of 12 drivers per side and will probably prepared as towers to position the speaker drivers at the proper height and to avoid the need for pedestals and reducing the chance of being knocked over. We are still considering designs for the rear 2 channel speakers. All of the surround speakers will also be in an automotive or piano black with all drivers visible without any speaker covers.

Hopefully this new audio/theater room is a bit bigger that the 12x12 room that I'm currently using.

Fred,

It will be a bit bigger, but the house just doesn't have enough space for larger. The room will be 19' 4" X 14' 7" in size. I will be shoe horning some of the gear in and there will be enough amps (with enough power) and speakers for a real loud theater if I wanted.

Rich, Do you have a diagram or blue print of the new speakers? I'm just curious as to how they look

Hi Rhett,

I have photos of the towers that Dave had taken as they were worked on as well as some that I took when I visited and auditioned them in June. At present we are keeping this under wraps because as far as we know the design is unique. Dave wants to bring these to market and we are trying to figure out how to get them to at least a few stores even on consignment. Dave would like us to go into the business together. But, my other half is very much against it and is concerned about my losing a lot of money.

So for now, hang in there. Dave knows that I intend to post photos once I have them. But, the expectation is that these will not be posted probably until December or so. Dave knows that even though the photos will be posted the crossover, wiring, binding posts, and the speaker driver preparation will not be visible and will be hidden from prying eyes. The only person that I have shown the photos to was Chris Brady of Teres Audio. I showed him the photos when he installed the Teres Certus 450 Turntable set-up. He was quite impressed by the design. I expect that I will have to have Chris come back and help me move and re-install the Teres turntable in the new home. At that time I hope that I will have these speakers along with the Wireworld Platinum Eclipse RCA ICs for the Teres system so we can really demo the turntable for him.

Rich

Thought I'd give this a bump to see if any of our newer members wanted to partake of the poll and make a comment.

I sent a lot more money (including another check today) to Dave Schulte for the building of my 2 front towers; they may finally be paid in full, but I am not sure yet. Dave found some ways including the crossover to really improve the performance of the Prototypes. We will start dealing with the Center Channel speaker in short order; hopefully later this month and next. The other 4 speakers are hopefully going to dealt with in the 1st or 2nd quarter of next year.

Chris,

At this point, we still do not know if I will end up getting the Prototype Speakers or a first Production run. Also, we are still discussing the final plan layout and orientation of the Center Channel Speaker. It may be a half tower and/or a square/rectangle that would allow flipping the speaker from a vertical to horizontal to determine which orientation sounds better in the room.

So, I doubt anything will be posted till December or January at this point. I have to get whatever monsters that have been created home first. And the house is scheduled for a closing date in November with work that needs to be done running into December.

So I'm reading the above as you might not even take delivery until you're all settled at the new pad. You have SO much more patience than I do. Well, if it's any consolation, I'm excited for you and this project. Can't wait to see what has been developed and what specs you are allowed to give us.

I'm at around $9500 in the past 12 months on just gear. That is not counting cabling, mounts, furniture, CD's, BD's, etc.

I still plan on spending at least another $3K on speakers before the end of the year.

Boy, I love this hobby!
