Really... If the entire team flunked it, the NCAA should really step in, even half a team is hugely unacceptable given they are public figures.

I have to blame video games.

These players are well aware - just as any college-aged male is - that if you pick the Giants in Tecmo Super Bowl, and select Lawrence Taylor as the user-controlled player, every once in a while he will do a line of cocaine on the sidelines and become the fastest and strongest player on the field. With this type of knowledge, how could a football player not do drugs?

According to the linked story only 5 players failed TCU's February 1 drug test, all for marijuana, as well as 11 other players who had trace amounts in their system that is within the margin for error. 86 players had no drugs in their system.

All he did was quietly build an average to below average program. I bet any of the top coaches in football could have done a good job with zero pressure.

*Oh I forgot his graduating rates are absolute trash(while at uconn).
He beat Spurrier in a bowl game. I think fans are being hard on him. He's a good football coach but UCONN was probably a better job. He should have stayed there. MD is a joke right now in all of their athletics.

Even Maryland basketball ain't what it used to me. After that 2002 national title the quality of Maryland basketball under Gary Williams. Between 1999-2003 Maryland had 8 NBA draft picks. Since then only 4 players have been drafted and only one of them was a 1st round pick.

Hard to judge Mark Turgeon as a coach just yet since he's only been there for one season. He did a great job at both Texas A&M and Wichita St. I'm sure he'll improve Maryland basketball.

You have to put what Friedgen did in perspective though. MD was a perenial loser for decades with the Esiason/Reich era as the only bright spot. He created expectations at MD that had been nonexistent for 20 years.

Problem with our basketball was Gary didn't ramp up after that, guys like Roy Williams push harder after a NC. Gary was picking up chicks and slacking afterwards and don't get me started on the AAU mess and how he wouldn't go after any of those kids.

This player was also only a 3 star recruit and didn't ever get a scholarship offer from Alabama, although he did get numerous offers from other BCS schools and signed with a Big 10 school.

Jeez, that sounds like harassment more than recruiting.

I dunno I think its a bit much, but it would make me feel good. Wouldn't you feel good if you'd always wanted to go to UGA and they basically were on their knees (basically what that says to me ) doing that?

Funny thing about my school UCF moving from CUSA to Big East is the fact that it's a downgrade for some sports. The Big East is a big step up for our basketball team and a step up for football. But in other sports, namely baseball, it's a big step down. CUSA is actually one of the better conferences in the nation in baseball. Last season CUSA has 3 (UCF included) teams in the top-25 and 4 in the top-30 nationally based on RPI. It includes some really top-notch programs like Rice, Southern Miss, East Carolina. The Big East is terrible in baseball. But then again most sports decisions for college teams are based mainly on football and to a lesser extent basketball since that's where the money is made.

Hey Chad, I am right there with you as a UH fan. That just means we can battle it out for the baseball title while battling it out for the basketball cellar.

Source - http://espn.go.com/ncf/conversations...0-yard-line-35

Quote:
INDIANAPOLIS -- Kickoffs in major college football will move from the 30 to the 35-yard line next season, a change intended to keep players safer.

The change was approved this week by the NCAA playing rules oversight panel, which also said the running start by players on the kicking team will be limited to 5 yards.

The NFL moved up kickoffs 5 yards this past season and touchbacks increased dramatically. Another new NCAA rule involving free kicks will move touchbacks from the 20 to the 25-yard line, a move intended to encourage more touchbacks.

The panel also approved a rule that will require a player who loses his helmet during a play to leave the game for one play, and there are also new guidelines regarding blocking below the waist and blocking on punt returns. Players will also be prohibited from leaping over blockers when trying to block punts.
