So let's talk about this peak pricing bullshit. So last night, my friend is asking me to please go see Mamma Mia. I'm like eh.. the first one was decent thanks to Meryl Streep. Not sure how I'd feel about a near Meryl-less sequel but I caved in.I was leaving work and it's a few minutes from the theater and with Moviepass, it's essentially free.

I park and go to check-in.. 7pm Mamma Mia.. No mention of any peak pricing. I press the check-in button and it says I have to update the app. Of course I do. It updates and suddenly almost every single movie at my sparsely attended local theater is peak pricing.

$5.85 peak pricing. For every movie that's come out in the last month, all the way to Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom. Are you kidding me? I got pissed and left. My friend is texting me that they're almost at the theater. I was like don't bother. I'm not paying for that shit.

If this is how it's going to be, I'm canceling MoviePass ASAP and I'll switch to AMC's where I can actually reserve my seats in advance.

I’m holding onto the email that says one peak pass waiver per month. I knew they were going to try to skip on July but that emaill is nice evidence with the BBB. So next week, when I go to see Mission: Impossible, if there isn’t a waiver... I’ll send it to them.

What’s stupid is the surcharge last Friday was less than $5 but the surcharge yesterday was $5.85! MoviePass is literally pulling these choices and prices out if their butts.

I wouldn't be surprised to see some surcharges go over $7, at which point how much $ are you really saving? Not enough, I'd say. Classes start for me in 23 days anyway so I'm not missing much.

I don't know, man, that's kind of crummy behavior on your part towards your friend. You couldn't spare the 6 bucks just once when they expended the gasoline to drive to the theater? Not to mention all the other basically free kovies you got to see by benefitting from moviepass?

I'm not defending surge pricing because it is deceptive, but it's not the end of the world.

I have to think they've collected enough data to crunch to know when its worthwhile to implement.

I haven't seen a single peak pricing icon on my app for any theater in my region, even ones I'd never go to. Should I just be waiting for the other shoe to drop? Or maybe there aren't as many MoviePass users here?

Seems the peak pricing for me are the ones later on in the night. Or at least most of them.

Also looking at my History. It doesn't show the last 4 movies I watched. Which were Skyscraper, Hotel Transylvania 3, Mamma Mia 2 and The Equalizer. Anyone else have that problem. But yet they show up as seen in the app.

Scroll all the way to the bottom of your history. One of the updates they pushed reversed the order after 7/13.

Okay, that's weird. It shows 3 of the 4.

Plus it only shows the movie once if you saw it multiple times with MP before.

Every movie, every showtime (except for Uncle Drew) is Surge Priced today.

I won't stay subscribed if this becomes a regular thing. MoviePass has no value to me if it becomes simply a discount card. I'm not going to see 10 films a month in order to just break even. Pay for the majority of the ticket, and maybe we'll chip in a buck. That is not how Surge Pricing was proposed.

Quote:
"At certain times for certain films — on opening weekend — there could be an additional charge for films," Lowe told Business Insider.
It isn't "certain times", if it's for every showing in a day. It isn't "certain films", it's nearly EVERY film.

And that Surge Pass that's mysteriously taking them weeks months to implement will likely never see the light of day.

I sincerely hope H&M's shareholders pursue action against Lowe for tanking their investments.

4:40 showing for Skyscraper is currently at Peak Pricing with a surcharge of $4.03 (normally $10.90)

Currently has 8 seats sold out of 77.

7:20 showing is also at Peak Pricing, same theater, same auditorium, with 2 seats sold out of 77.

Still saving money off of the normal ticket price but COME ON.

Same. All showtimes of every movie except Uncle Drew and Sicario.

I'm thinking about switching to AMC A-List, since most of the smaller theaters around here don't take MoviePass anyway.

My membership just expired and I actually jumped ship and joined Sinemia. Between family, work and school, I only have time to see one or two movies a month. So their plans work well for me.

I looked at the app and saw all the showings were peak pricing. Or at least the ones I haven't seen already. Uncle Drew wasn't peak.
