Need quick advice:
Picked up a Switch today at GS for my son for Christmas. (was afraid they might get harder to find later) And I declined the warranty from them for 2 years for $60.00 and now I am thinking about going back and adding it. My son is 10 and has had a 3DS XL for almost 4 years with no issues. I"m hoping it will pretty much stay docked but I know at some point he will go mobile with it. We already have a good hard travel case for it and a good screen protector for it. Did you go yes or no on the warranty? Thanks, |

That being said, my 9 year old niece was over on Sunday and she dropped her game controller twice. |

Just FYI, keeping it docked isn't the best idea. It gets really hot in there when the dock is plugged in. There've been stories of screen protectors melting, even game cards warping from the heat. Personally I wouldn't leave it in there for more than 2-3 hours at a time. For charging I recommend plugging the AC adapter's cord into the port beneath the screen directly. After that, best to just leave it in that travel case you have until he's ready to play with it again. |

It doesn't get warm at all when its in sleep mode. Switch also has built in protection to shut down if it gets too hot, so one shouldn't break it from heat while playing docked either. Last edited by dmaul1114; 09-09-2017 at 05:00 AM. |

About the heat issue, I do notice that since I've played in TV mode outside of the dock, the Switch first run much cooler than TV mode inside the dock. Games like Mario Kart 8 would get the Switch hot to the touch in the dock, and only minorly warm outside the dock. You can try it yourself by getting a USB-C extension cable, plugging one end into the dock and the other end into the Switch.

Do you think carts will come with a code that allows the additional download or will it be enough to have the cart? . If it's a download code then that really eliminates buying 2nd hand.
I know resident evil comes with a code but that's a 2nd game so it's really nba 2k18 I'm wondering about and future large games. |

Developers need to understand you do not need a universal trophy system in order to have trophies/achievements in a game.
Super Smash Bros. has had trophies for the longest time, dating back decades. Disgaea 5 also has trophies on the Switch. Disney Infinity had achievements (called "Feats") on the Wii U. Goldeneye64 and Perfect Dark both had achievements on the N64. etc. You can have built-in trophies/achievements within the game itself. |

I've very rarely every chased trophies/achievements, but I do like having the system wide record and overall score. Nice to occasionally look through and reminisce about past gaming experiences, look at friends lists and see what they've played/been playing a lot (earning a lot of trophies from). I've used the latter to find new games to try at times just from seeing randoms I've added for various games having played a lot of games I liked having a ton of trophies from some game I've never played.
