This makes me laugh, because I don’t either, and plenty of people(including myself) has bumped their head on the speakers hanging. I have since arranged the seating to where that is not possible to do.

If anyone remembers, I did it because of me being without for those 6 months, and just threw it together. It’s pretty silly to be hanging there, but I am so use to it now, I don’t care.

You’ve seen the pics?

Five are all the point sources I need for my living room. It works well for me . I only have 9.5 feet from my front soundstage to the rear wall

Sounds like we sit about the same distance from the TV. I sit 9ft from our tv, and would sit closer, except I would be blocking a door... lol

I sit 8.5 feet from my screen but 8 feet from my fronts which are almost 8 feet apart. The sofa is 8 inches off the back wall for improved bass response

But due to my layout I'm still rocking the 5.1
I rememeber Joe saying in my thread he uses PLIIx when he watches concert BD's to go from 5.1 to 7.1. Not sure how it would sound as I too am rocking the 5.1.

I'm just now seeing the panels you have put up for your rear speakers... Very clever indeed. Are your rear speakers 90degree's pointing at each other?

If so, shouldn't you toe those inward some, I'm thinking aiming them at the point just infront of the center position face, because the reflection point is right off that wall. Pointing them inward, wouldn't that help with the first reflection off of that wall? (maybe put a small panel on the wall right there)

Watching a BD concert, it sounds fabulous, but when it's time for some 2 channel music, the 2channel is the winner.

I use to like hearing 'all channel' when I listen to music.

If I toed them in any they wouldn't be facing the listening position but somewhere towards the middle of the room ,which would cause cancellations and a diminished soundfield . This setup works best for the room.

I agree I tend to want to hear my soundtracks and music the way they were recorded ...... Stereo or multi-channel

I agree 100%. Unless I'm listening to an SACD or a DVD-A/DTS disc, I only listen to 2 channel, sometimes with the sub for a little bottom end. I was listening to the Eagles Live cd's last week, and those vocal harmonies on Seven Bridges Road sounded amazing on the Ascend's. I can only imagine what they would sound like on the Sierra's with an NrT tweeter.

That wouldn't cause cancellation, please don't make me explain, I'm high on Vicodine's right now(for the pain of this gout).

Ok! I'll try a little bit...

I don't think they would cancel each other if they are two different channels, because the audio is different. I thought the cancellation occurs when it's the same channel with the wrong phase settings.

Because if that was the case, then in a 7.1 setup, the side surrounds would always have cancellations with the rear surrounds, because of positioning. Especially with direct radiating speakers.

That why dipoles are suggested for a more diffuse soundfield .

Again, I'm high, and your trying to confuse me.

Isn't having more of a diffuse sound mean, not so direct, harder to pinpoint where the sound is coming from? Nothing to do with surrounds cancelling each other out or the fronts cancelling out the rears.
