Hmm. You know what I just realized? That corner table and lamp really don't match with anything. I got those for free back when I moved into this house and kept them ever since, but - I mean, they're just so random!

I'm going to take it out and put another "aesthetically acoustic column" with a logo frieze in its place when I can. Now I really need another order of foam. Dammit! Which means I need another small lighting fixture elsewhere. Dammit! I have to stop looking at my room with a critical eye.

Edit. Damn. I just did the above with my remaining four panels. AAAARGH stop me now. Anyway, here's a pic of my situation, currently, with my amps not probably getting here til this Thurs/Fri.

For those of you wondering what the hell that thing is, it's an Antec Veris A/V Cooler that permits me to stack components without worrying about overheating. Pretty cool. This pic is also a pretty good example of my architect's OCD - symmetry is everywhere!

Can't even sleep due to excitement. Got all my parts in to do my black-out project right now. But I'm hungry. Food first.

Mhm. Once the damnable things get here. Only for the front three for the moment, though. I'm toying with new furniture arrangements right now - re-wiring everything. What I did last night (cuz I didn't go out, reasons later) was completely strip the entire room to bare bones (minus the TV) - clean it - and put everything back in. I have to rewire the rears and the furniture and whatnot. Also re-thinking my coffee table and seating distances.

SubDude was a nice touch, you can see it there under the Dynamo- still playing with placement. I wired everything back for a sec cuz I got bored and wanted to play some PS3, so ignore the placement of the AA Sub10 on the left. Took out the lamp and corner table for another "JJs Acoustically Aesthetic Doric Column" - no rear wires or rugs back yet. I'll deal with those later.

Haha, you can see me on the forums on my laptop.

JJ, never realized how much toe-in you have. Have you messed around with that?...or are you just doing that for the single seat position? I would think that with your speakers you wouldn't need that much. What's going on with the black-out cloth project? Also, ever consider an area rug? Might change your sound by quite abit.

No. Some speakers are designed to have no toe-in, complete toe-in, or toe-out. My SDA's cannot be toed in otherwise the SDA effect would useless.

A lot of the question of aiming the speakers will also be dependent on the design and orientation of drivers up and down and left to right in the speaker cabinets; the distance that the speakers are apart; the seating distance from the speakers; the distance from the wall; the distance from a corner; the room itself; etc.

Well.... if this "Little" project is anything like his thread (The Assembly of a "Mini"-Project ) it's probably going to be over-the-top

Very well said DK!

I personally find that the amount of toe-in I see here in the galleries is excessive, and can't help but think they are losing a great deal of the soundstage, imaging and presence they could otherwise obtain.

I have my Totem Sttaf's firing straight-on and that's with an 8' spread from centre of each speaker. My room won't allow for further exploration with distance, but I'd love to try it. Totem's recommended strategy for the Sttaf's is to NOT toe-in within 6' and then experimentation of toe-in (in very small increments) is suggested beyond. Remember that this is not a hard and fast rule as our equipment, size of room and acoustical environment all play a role.

John

Hell, my speakers are 10'-0" apart, and toed in right at a perfect angle to center couch. I did that from the getgo of setup, though. Maybe I should toy with it and see if I'm actually missing anything.

JJ, email B&W and see what they say, I'm curious. I'm going to do the same myself to see if they have any advice for my speakers. Mine are actually studio monitors, so I would think toe-in would be preferred.

I remember seeing on a THX-related site or link, some diagrams showing the Fronts & main Listening position should form a triangle, so that is why I have & use the toed-in method -- to Me, it sounds like it gives better directionality. But as many here say, whatever works for YOU is all that matters. We can Try options suggested, and I usually do when possible, & sometimes those suggestions end up working better than we thought they would!
