Who ever told you that is lying. edge lit LED's? no way. if i were you i'd wait for the flagship 9000 series which will have local dimming. i still dont think even that will tv surpass the kuro. im sure it will come close though.

Mr. J, those are IKEA Dioder lights. However, you can't buy them online from IKEA, you have to go to your nearest IKEA, and in Gville, I don't think there are any nearby ones...

And as far as televisions go, I dont know too much about that - I'm more of an audio person.

Sorry for muddying your thread JJ. But Soprano you are incorrect. The 8000 series is backlit and supports local dimming
http://www.displayblog.com/2009/01/0...led-backlight/
seems the only difference between 8/9k series will be wire/wireless internet respectively. and the 9k is rumored to have a slightly better local dimming technology. http://www.crunchgear.com/2009/04/23...l-led-control/
But we'll see. The 8k's start at about $3,000 and the 9K's somewhere right under $4,000. And I'm not paying 4 large for a TV anytime soon.

It happens, Mr. J. What you doing up?

I'm in my architecture studio on campus right now, doing work, sipping the happy juice and working on the computer - madness may ensue

Sorry but your wrong, the 6,7, and 8000 series only have LED's around the edges. it is not local dimming.

EDIT- and just for the record, the A950 is still superior in a way to these current models.

Trust me, you need to wait for the B9000.

Quote:
The 9 series will - unlike the B6000, B7000 and B8000 – feature a LED backlight with local dimming. The lower TV series utilize a LED backlight with LEDs placed on the sides of the LCD panel; in popular terms Edge LED.
Local dimming ensures much higher contrast because the LEDs are placed in zones and controlled locally, like on the Philips 9803 LED Lux LCD-TV that we recently reviewed.

Do you have anything to support this. The link I gave clearly stated backlit for the 8000.

It's all a secret, nobody knows...this thread may provide SOME clues:

And, I'm taking it bad, Craz. I don't want to watch any new movies since I have all these improvements coming soon. Haven't done anything on my setup for the past week other than play PS3 or listen to music. No movies.
