Maybe. Maybe not. What is clear is that Teaff should have gotten Kiffin's explanation for his quote before going public. Instead, he decided to go public without knowing (or caring about) the context of Kiffin's remark.

Each coach's vote normally is kept confidential until the final vote of the regular season under an agreement between USA TODAY Sports and the American Football Coaches Association. However, when a voter volunteers false or misleading information about his vote in public, then USA TODAY Sports, in its oversight role as administrator of the poll, will set the record straight to protect the poll's integrity.

I understand wanting to defend Kiffin, and I don't think it's a big deal and is more humorous than anything else, but Kiffin straight up lied and his excuse makes absolutely no sense. He voted USC #1, and then said he would not vote USC #1. He didn't say if he was in the media or coaching another team he wouldn't vote USC #1, he said he would not vote them #1. In reality they should just get rid of the coach's poll. For the most part coaches do not watch other teams games and have no idea who the best teams are, and they are definitely going to be biased for and against certain teams.

The really stupid thing is coaches voting in a major poll to begin with. It's one of the most riciculous things ever and why most take the AP poll more seriously than Coaches.

I'll concede to your point about outing a voter who lies. However, based upon the context of what he said, Kiffin did NOT lie. Again, from the article... "His quote about the poll came in response to being told that Arizona coach Rich Rodriguez had voted USC No. 1." Kiffn replied, "I would not vote USC No. 1, I can tell you that," he told reporters.

It's clear as day to me that Kiffin used the word, "I" as if he was taking the POV of Rich Rodriguez, and not speaking for himself.

Any reasonable person who understands sentence syntax and context understands this.

So, I take issue with your, "straight up lied and his excuse makes absolutely no sense" comment. Kiffin did not lie. He said that if he was Rich Rodriguez, or any other coach, that he wouldn't vote USC #1. Pretty simple, actually.

Hear hear... There is NO integrity to that poll. It's a bunch of self-serving coaches/SIDs who overrate their own team and underrate those teams that threaten their standing/ranking.

This is the first year in a decade in which USC has had a vote in the Coaches Poll. Pete Carroll saw the conflict of interest and refused to participate in it, despite being asked multiple times. For the past two seasons under Kiffin, he wasn't asked to participate, because USC was ineligible.

I'm actually glad that USC has at least one representative in that poll. After getting screwed out of playing in the BCS MNC game in 2003, 2007, and 2008 by the coaches poll, at least she gets a vote this year and the opportunity to protect her own interests.

Sometimes the head coach doesn't even do the voting for these polls and delegates it to an assistant. It's beyond ridiculous.

Counselor says Auburn RB's transcript is fake

Auburn freshman running back Jovon Robinson is being held out of practice while the NCAA investigates allegations that his high school transcript was falsified.

Athletic department spokesman Kirk Sampson said Friday that Robinson's academic status is being reviewed.

Memphis City Schools said in a statement that NCAA officials contacted the school district Tuesday regarding allegations involving a former Wooddale High School athlete. The statement said schools superintendent Kriner Cash ordered an immediate investigation and that a school guidance counselor resigned after admitting to creating the fake transcript.

The Memphis Commercial Appeal first reported the allegations Friday.

The statement did not identify the counselor or the student.

"Know that the District has clear and strict policies and procedures regarding student transcripts," the school district statement said. "Academic fraud is not and will not be tolerated and will be dealt with swiftly and accordingly."

Robinson was one of Auburn's top prospects, and had a chance to contribute in a backfield trying to replace starter Mike Dyer. The 6-foot-1, 220-pounder is easily the biggest of Auburn's tailbacks and would bring a physical presence to the backfield if he's eligible.

Messages left by The Associated Press at the school were not returned.

Emails sent to guidance counselors, head coach Keith Spann, assistant football coach Michael Collins and the school principal, Michael Kyle, were not returned.

A phone number listed for Spann was disconnected.

Amen. A poll that helps determine a championship, manipulated by those with a vested interest in the outcome...what a terrible idea. Back before the BCS (and the Coalition, and the Alliance) it didn't bother me that much, but now it's too onerous to continue.

Would you have any faith at all in a movie reviewer who has never seen the movies he reviews? How about if he gives four stars to a movie he produced?

A final FU to Grant Teaff.

I will miss the 1st season since before Pete Carroll was HC for the Trojans to have a vote in the Coaches Poll, but it really only matters for this season and next. After that, people will only care about the AP and who the selection committee chooses for its final four.
