Lincoln is the movie it is mostly due to the acting in the movie and of course, the script. I am glad it got recognition in those categories.

There was no need for award-worthy editing in a movie like this...everything was pretty straight forward. They just followed the script to the bone.

With all these good actors and a good script, the movie sort of just makes itself (if you know what I mean). I guess what bugged me the most about Lincoln was that Spielberg just played it too safe. I wish the movie had a little more of a flavour/attitude.

P.S. John williams' score put me to ****ing sleep
If a film is going to win Best Film it needs a film editing nod as well. It's just been the way it's gone for the other winners.

I've been testing out the theory once handed down to me by another late film-chat genius on Usenet:
If the same movie wins both Editing and Score, collect your Picture bets early. Loyal Hugo-booster that I was, I tried that with the Artist last year, and collected.

I was kinda sad for Looper not being in there for Best Film Editing at least and maybe Best Original Screenplay too, that movie was great.
Bardem should have gotten a Best Supporting Actor nomination for his role as Silva on Skyfall IMO.
Lincoln, Django and Zero Dark Thirty haven't come out here in Portugal yet, so I can't really give my opinion on those movies, but I loved Argo and Silver Linings Playbook. I'll have to check out the others nominated for Best Motion Picture of the Year aswell.
They completely ignored TDKR aswell, which was my favourite movie of 2012, and I think it should have gotten nominations for the technical departments at the very least.
When I get to watch every movie nominated for Best Motion Picture of the Year, I'll make a list of my picks for each department

Still is terribly criminal to me how Cloud Atlas didn't get get Score, Cinematography, Editing and Make-up nominations. That was technically flawless film regardless if you liked the storylines or not.

Well there is now a giant target on Lincoln's head. (Too soon?)

While the Globes and Oscars don't really go hand in hand, they are important in building momentum.

Every precursor tells me that Argo is the frontrunner, but with Affleck not nominated and no support in the lead acting awards...I have a real hard time seeing this take the prize.

Who has the ability to take it? Silver Linings? Zero Dark?

This is going to be a more interesting race than I had anticipated, and that is a VERY good thing.

I bolded the ones I think will win (based off the Golden Globes feedback).

I hope I'm wrong about some, though.

I'd love to see Argo and Silver Linings take it all.

Yeah. I liked Cloud Atlas a lot too. Seems a shame it was shut out.

Before all these award shows, I was sure Lincoln and Jennifer Lawrence were a lock for their Oscars. Now, I think it will be Argo and Jessica Chastain will instead.

It would be so funny if Affleck wins everything until Oscars. I still want Les Mis to win BP though.

With Affleck's win, the Academy looks even worse for not nominating him.

Definitely a complete joke that Affleck isn't nominated. Still want Spielberg to win though.

Cause they probably think Drama is a bigger thing then Comedy/Drama.

Riva SHOULD win... but Hollywood will go with one of the young pretty girls, because that's how shallow Hollywood is.

I dont think the Academy will be bothered by that though and still give her the award.
Screen time has nothing to do with a performance. As far as Les Mis goes, she was in it about the same amount as that character was in the stage play.

Anthony Hopkins unjustly won Best Actor for being onscreen in Silence of the Lambs for only 16 measly minutes... that technically should have been supporting.

Beatrice Straight win Supporting for Network, despite being in screen for only 5 minutes 40 seconds.
