So, the Twilight Time release of The Stone Killer is on a $25 pre-order sale (list $30) via Screen Archives "(pre-order until May 9th - $29.95 thereafter)". Worth it (only a 6.2 rating on IMDb)? Comments?

If you collect Bronson it's a solid flick. Might want to get the Indicator release though. Will likely be slightly better and cheaper.

I noticed that stone killer is up for preorder. I have never watched it. I am a big fan of Charles Bronson. At one point I collected almost everything he did on dvd including his tv show man with a camera. As I made the move to blu ray, I have only collected his top stuff and my personal favorites such as hard times, death wish, mr majestyc, chatos land, death hunt, house of wax etc. How good is stone killer in comparison to his other movies? Is it worth the blind buy ?

I like Bronson and have almost all of his films on DVD. This detective thriller belongs to the not-so-riveting category of Bronson's filmography. It's not bad but rather boring, which explains why it never even made it to DVD stateside.

Try watching it in one sitting if you can. I managed to finish it only after three/four separate viewings

I'd rate it a 6 out of 10. Only for Bronson hardcore fans.

I haven't seen the film, but for those who are interested in it, I'd go with June's region-free release from Indicator. It's $20 shipped (with VAT removed) from Amazon UK and includes additional extras not on the TT (with a different commentary), as well as what will certainly be a more substantial booklet (written by the commentator for TT's disc, so it will likely cover much of the same ground as the TT commentary):

Quote:
• Audio commentary by journalist and critic Nick Pinkerton

• Mr. Blonde: Paul Koslo on ‘The Stone Killer’ (2017, 17 mins): the colourful character actor discusses his work on the film and relationship with star Charles Bronson

• The John Player Lecture with Michael Winner (1970, 67 mins): audio recording of an interview with the director conducted by Margaret Hinxman at the National Film Theatre, London

• Isolated score: experience Roy Budd's original soundtrack music

• Original theatrical trailer

• Image gallery

• New and improved English subtitles for the deaf and hard-of-hearing

• Limited edition exclusive booklet with a new essay by Paul Talbot, author of Bronson's Loose! The Making of the ‘Death Wish’ Films and Bronson's Loose Again! On the Set with Charles Bronson, an overview of contemporary critical responses, and historic articles on the film

The cover art also doesn't have that ugly and pointless filter that TT inexplicably adds to seemingly every release.

I appreciate the "Indicator" heads up, guys, but ... and I wanna be cautious here because I've been advised to trust knowledgeable posters more than site info - but Amazon,uk lists no region code & BRDC only lists B (A, C untested). Since it's still unreleased (6-26-17), why the region-free confidence?

All of their Columbia/Sony title have been/are region-free. Here is the listing from their website, which states (below the special features listing) 'REGION FREE'.

Why the hell does Twilight Time seem to seek out the worst possible cover art? I cant think of a disc of theirs I own that makes go "Yeah, that's pretty badassed".

Ah well, I'm buying it for the disc, not the box. But still. . . .

Don´t give anything on screencaps.

The picture looks nice most of the time in motion.

If Twilight will ever release it which I think they will, then they would use the same master.

Rider On The Rain is outstanding and yet it's had a low profile on home video. I saw a vhs tape of it years ago that was so warped it looked like a psychedelic freakout.

Why is there no proper stateside release of this on blu-ray? It's egregious. It seems the studios will put out anything with Bronson's name on it, and I do believe it sells. The rights for this one must be complicated. I blame the French. Seriously though, what gives? It's a great film and easily top 5 Bronson.

Couldn't disagree with you more. It's not boring at all, 3-4 times to finish it, really? Wow. Have you seen it just that one time? It is very easy to enjoy if you like cop action/thrillers from the 70's.

I'd recommend it to people who aren't Bronson fans. For people who are Bronson fans, it's an absolute must.

It's my favorite Bronson, and supposedly his personal favorite as well. I have the UK DVD, it's Studio Canal and released by Optimum Home Video. It's not bad, but a far cry from a good Blu ray release.

We need the video quality of the Japanese release with the English audio in a US release

The Japanese BD contains the French cut of the film not the English cut.

There are two versions of the films. One filmed in English and one filmed in French. Both have slightly different running times.

We need both the French cut AND the English cut in HD, not just one or the other. To be honest, I prefer the French cut.

I agree, I was just saying that many of us here in the US would like a high quality HD version in English...... one that looks at least as good as the Japanese French cut.
