It's funny that you mentioned Hot Toys. George Miller actually won't authorize any action figures. Both Hot Toys and NECA are interested and can't get the rights.

That said, that hasn't stopped a company called VTS Toys from releasing a generic figure called Wasteland Ranger that totally doesn't look exactly like a Fury Road Mad Max Hot Toys like, at all:

Since it's unlicensed it's substantially cheaper than Hot Toys. I have mine preordered for $170 shipped. They're supposed to release next month.

A lot of people are hoping they do figures of Wasteland Ranger's female friend and his nemesis but nothing has been announced yet.

$170 for this? That's some first world problem you have there.

You wanna take another stab at that post? Maybe post something that makes sense and conveys what you're trying to say this time?

I thought it was clear. Anyone who would pay $180 for an action figure that cost about $5 to make either has money to burn or is just plain stupid. I guess that person could be both as well.

Says someone on a forum for a product that sells for $25 when they only cost pennies to produce.

But hey, if you can find someone that sells a Hot Toys-grade figure for $5 I'd love to know who they are.

That's not true. A BD cost around $3-10 to make once you factor in the disc, label art, cover art, and case. It's closer to $10 if there are multiple discs invovled.

The Seattle Cinerama is playing the Black and Chrome edition for one week only in November. Not sure I'll make it over there to see it, but interesting that this version is getting a limited theatrical run.

You're seriously ill-informed if you think a multi-disc set costs $10 to manufacture.

If it's UHD or BD then yeah it does. If many of those discs are DVDs then yeah it's much cheaper.

Hilarious. How do you account for something like a Mill Creek complete TV series set including 20 discs for $50? By your rationale this 2nd Blu-ray Disc that would raise the cost from $3 to $10 would result in a product that costs $136 to manufacture if discs 3-20 were added.

In reality the replication costs actually drop substantially as discs are added.

Of course, additional discs include additional intellectual property. That's where you may see a substantial increase in cost, though you're far more likely to see the seller increase the price because of the perceived additional value that comes with adding discs as opposed to an actual increase in cost.

I was just away to ask about the German edition, so it's still not confirmed if that will have the Thunderdome doc?

I have no interest really in the Black and Chrome edition, and I already have the Madness of Max DVD, so this would be way too pricey to get right now just for the Road Warrior doc, but I would like that doc.

Sorry to butt in but he is both right and wrong.

If you only consider the replication, materials and distribution costs, then yeah, it might by a little high but studios have more than those costs all factored in. Authoring studio, design artists, distribution rights, negotiated percentages to multiple parties, etc. These multiplied by thousands of discs will amount to $5 or so but these are costs nonetheless.

As for the action figure, there are licensing rights, artists and sculpture costs, manufacture, marketing and distribution, etc. Hardly $5 do produce.

It's actually more like 30 cents, if even that to make a disc. This doesn't take into account anything other than the disc though. Since everything is done in bulk, it comes out much cheaper anyway. There's always a ton of profit.

Oh boy, there is waaaaaay more than $5 invested in Hot Toys figures. There are costs in gaining the likeness rights to actors, the sculptors, licensing, and many of the figures are hand painted. Each are also 12 inches tall and fully articulated, plus they're limited, marking up the price higher if they're gonna make back the costs it takes to manufacture the figures.

Of course, people could say the same thing to you about Blu-ray collecting - it's just another 'waste of money' and 'stupid', but at least you know what costs go into releasing a movie - but you can't say the same about these, becuase you clearly don't know what goes into them.

There's a little bit of a view of what goes on with Hot Toys specifically in this video, but not too much about the costs. But it does show that it takes someone very talented to create these things.

Anyways, back to the topic on hand - yeah, the costs of this High Octane Collection with car is insane. The same car statue has been released overseas already with just Fury Road, so they already should've made back most of the money spent on the sculpting for it already, plus there's only two new discs in this set that haven't been released before, so it shouldn't be this high. I could see the set retailing at $170 max (pun intended), and I still wouldn't even touch it for that price - the most I could see for it is about $100.

Please folks, let's keep this discussion on the release and leave the silly name calling and personal digs at the door.

You're not paying for the disc bro, you're paying for the content on it.
