I'm a real animal lover and this film can be painful to watch for me. Even the part in New York when he he finds Ann in the street and they just stare at each other. All he wants to do is find Ann. Shit, I can feel myself filling up just typing this. Its so frikkin sad man. And that track Beautiful is a killer |

The film's final act, back in New York as Kong escapes, is not only moving dramatically, its UHD HDR video is breathtakingly beautiful, particularly the scenes shot from atop the Empire State Building.

I see this is down to $15. Is it worth the upgrade to 4K? It's by far my favorite Kong film. And I agree, that ending gets me every time

I've seen the Blu-ray many times and was hesitant to upgrade to the 4K version as I thought that I wouldn't be that into it after seeing it so many times. TOTALLY worth it, IMO. I usually put in a new 4K disc for a few minutes just to check it out and ended up watching this all the way through.

Just checked my Canadian version of Ultimate 4K King Kong and it is indeed HDR10 as I assumed it should be and as the page for the U.S. version says it is. Was doing an inventory of my collection to see which have HDR and thought all did until I saw this one didn't. The ones that are SDR I guess naturally did not make my buy list. I did not know this until recently and therefore bought them just based on the titles.

Yea i noticed it alot in the island and that brontosaurus meet where they filmed them, lighting seems to change if you watched their clothes it look sunny and next scene is not... Also cgi looks very good but some scenes start to show its age since its 2k upscale i quess.

Just got done watching this for the first time. WOW this is bright and contrasty. After turning down both my OLED Light and contrast quite a bit, this actually turned out to be a stellar looking disc that bests the BD in every way, specifically in detail and compression which was a major issue with the BD.

![]() The BD was very "hot contrast" in the opening sections too, and the UHD calms down later on, so I don't think it's revisionist really, just intense. |

Watched this a few days ago on my LG B7 OLED and overall it looked great. The image is super bright and hot but nothing that made me think my settings were incorrect. The main drawback to this release is the 4k really makes the cgi standout sometimes. If the cgi looked bad in certain scenes on the blu ray, the 4k makes it look really bad now. I never noticed the digital smoothing on Naomi Watts until now which was distracting. On the plus side, 90% of film looks absolutely gorgeous. The ending with Kong on the empire state building looks incredible. I didn't own this on blu ray so the $15 I paid for it was well worth it.

Watching this now, and wowser on the brightness. Did a little adjusting of brightness and looks good. Detail in some shots is astounding. Facial pores benefit greatly on this transfer. Some lovely depth as well.

I echo the sentiments of many in here. When the presentation is on, it's really on - it looks stunning. But the hotness of the HDR application does hurt it at times. I also saw some rampant smoothness, but this could trace back to the DI. Back in 2005, filmmakers could get away with applying DNR to shots, because the filmout for cinema exhibition would cover it back up in light grain.
So yeah, methinks this one is faithful to the source, but the source itself has problems. Oh, and who else noticed the horrendous green-screening at certain points? During the wide shot showing both sides of the chasm as everyone is climbing up after the spider pit, you can see static characters slightly shifting (not firmly planted on the environment) even though it's a predominantly static shot. They flicker, too. And look out for the green edges around some of the characters! Man, they really did rush this one. Imagine if they took an extra year to refine the edit and polish the VFX. Anyhoodle, still happy with the purchase for the most part. |

While the digital beauty pass done on Naomi Watts (gah, that smoothed out hairline to cover up the joins of the wig distracts the shit out of me) is still there on the BD, several of the most badly DNR'ed shots are not like that on the BD at all. So I wouldn't chalk all of that up to the DI.
