They're not selling discs, if that's what you're getting at. But they had to get studios on board for lower digital UHD prices so I figure it'll help drop pricing on UHD Blu-rays.
Amazon UK just dropped a ton under £10 a few just over £5 and a few under £4.
Times they are a changing

I don't consider $13 "unheard" of when some catalog releases (Lionsgate if I recall) start at $15...

wow, interesting this deal happened so fast. It's now $21. I already have it on digital and wasn't planning on buying the 4K, but at $9.50, how could I not? Glad I was able to get in on the deal.

Have to thank my wife for asking if I bought this other item in my cart for my daughter. I had to double-check and see if I accidentally added the Blu-ray only version of the film.

Actually it lasted a big while.

I still don't know what picture mode to use for HDR10 - HDR standard, HDR bright, or HDR vivid. To me, standard looks the most natural. Vivid seems too saturated and processed. For Dolby Vision I have settings for movie bright, movie dark, and vivid. I have it set to movie bright currently but all I've used it for is a demo clip.
Regarding your first paragraph, yes that's right, that's my understanding of the way the correct settings work based on what I've read on various forums.

Which HDR picture mode to use is somewhat up to personal preference I think. Most people would agree that Vivid results in overblown, inaccurate colours and shouldn't be used. Standard is probably closest to the "correct" look, but I have a room with a lot of backlight during the day so I usually use Bright as that's what tends to look best in my particular environment.

Is the "new" Blu-ray EXACTLY the same as the old one, or will it actually play on my Blu-ray player?

There are still many cinephiles that haven't gone UHD yet and distributors producing new 1080p transfers for older 4K titles will entice a larger market (Even at $9.50 you couldn't get me to buy it with the old BD disc).

Would have bought Blade Runner and Starship Troopers had they done what they oughta.

Likewise baffled, appalled and demoralized at the industry's leaving blu-ray behind at these remastering junctures. At this pace, the next best thing--UHD--is already primed for the trash heap of obsolescence.

I console myself, somewhat, with the sneaking suspicion that the look of 'Troopers '17 is revisionist and not what The Mad Dutchman had in mind when he made it.

My new mantra: UK BLU 4 ME TOO!

Great question. I also wonder about the complaints of a botched edit on early pressings of the US. However: Given that the UK is, to my eyes, clearly superior in PQ...and what with it being readily available stateside, it's probably the best way to go for 1080p presentation of the film.

I should add, I finally had a chance to watch this last night and LOVED this disc. It looks gorgeous, and the new Atmos sound mix is awesome. Never in a million years did I think I'd get to see such a lovely 4K version of Starship Troopers.

Presentation aside, I hadn't rewatched this in years and totally forgot how great this movie is!

I was also blown away by how well the CGI has held up, still looks great.

Highly recommend.

Is it region locked? I'm all-region, but I might not always be playing it at home.

Welp. Given that price drop, I'm canceling all of my preorders right now.

They're easy to find off the main listing at Amazon.com, from many "fulfilled by" vendors...and currently cheaper than the US disk.

You're right. At that price, it was a no-brainer.

You'd be smart to do that anyway with Black Friday coming up, although its rare to see a new release with a Black Friday drop like this (BvS had one last year though).

Sure seems to be no reason to preorder anything now. Used to be the preorder price was good for at least a few weeks -- now it seems like just wait 7 days and EVERYTHING drops...even if it's a few bucks, it's like the preorder price is bested very, very quickly nowadays.

And ESPECIALLY where catalog titles in this format are concerned...it's almost like throwing money away preordering a UHD catalog disc.

The U.K. Blu edition is a shade better than the US (although the latter contains an excellent PiP commentary) but the 4K dumps over both from a great height. It's like having the 35mm negative in the form of a shiny 5" shiny disc and the audio is similarly tremendous.

Saw the Fifth Element price drop when I was in Best Buy yesterday and had them match it, they did. Then price went back up sometime later. Happy buyer here.
