![]() Dude, it's not 1997 any more. The 1080i60 will simply be deinterlaced by the player and output as 1080p60 with no ill effects, assuming a certain level of competence at both the mastering and playback level. I've got several bits of 25fps UK TV content on Blu which are basically encoded as 1080i50 PsF with a clean split of each frame into two fields (native 1080p25/30/50/60 not being part of the Blu-ray encoding spec) and when it's recombined during playback it's flawless. |

Does the 4k release contain the show on 4k as well as Blu-ray? Or is it only on 4k?

Contrast and the richness, density, and texture of the colors are much better on the UHD. There's dimensionality on the UHD that just doesn't exist on the regular blu rays. There's also a lot more detail, too. |

Colours I wouldn't say are better, just different. Take the first scene of episode 1 for example of Delores sitting in the chair. The beautiful blue hues on the floor are almost gone and desaturated. I'll keep comparing the two but for me, the blu-ray is a much closer representation to what I saw when I watched the show. Anyhoo, just my experience so far. |

No I didn't ask. I don't have the money until payday this Friday. I'll be checking back then. If this WM doesn't have it then, then i'll check another one close by, that has a bigger UHD selection.

My OPPO stands at the ready, I had a momentary thrill the other day when I played a few LG DV demo clips and the player picked them up as Dolby Vision 12-bit, but naturally output them as HDR10 10-bit. Looked gorgeous nonetheless. Quote:

It's no problem. I am aware that DV is capable of 12 bit color and common sense tells me that 12 bit is more accurate than 10 bit. However the sites I have been visiting are High Def Digest, AVS forum and this site. I have never claimed to be a scientist, The cabin in the woods got similar DV comments from all three sources and it looks like WestWorld might as well(Blu-ray has not weighed in on it yet.)
Some titles don't benefit from HDR as much as others and it looks like the differences DV makes on the two titles mentioned have small noticeable differences to the critical reviews I have read. I don't doubt DV's abilities to improve color accuracy and I have no reason to troll or side with one side or the other. I am hoping to see reviews that state DV makes a huge difference because one day I too will be utilizing it and hope for the best. Either way, thanks for the sources you posted, I will check them out. EDIT: TheSweetieMan could you give me your impressions of DV on Westworld vs HDR10? Do you disagree with with Ralph? He said he noticed a difference and if he had to choose one he would go with DV but he stated that the difference is very minor and weather it's better or not was subjective. I am curious on your opinion since you are a real user with nothing to gain or lose. Also what panel are you using currently? Last edited by the_sextein; 11-08-2017 at 11:16 PM. |
