Doesn't need to be "restored". Just a 4K transfer.

I think with the money Universal makes, they could easily have at least done 4K scans of the photochemically timed Interpositives of JP2 and JP3 (4K scan of JP1 already exists). In that way, we could finally get theatrically accurate colours, unlike the blue-magenta mess that the BDs are. But I don't think they will. Universal apparently does not like to spend money to make the product better for the buyers.

They didn't even bother to provide a single new bonus feature. Not a single deleted scene that die-hard fans have been pining for over two decades now. So, it's very likely that part 2 and 3 will just be upscales from their 1080p sources.

Universal did new transfers for Mummies 1 and 2, if they don't have any extant 4K assets for JP 2 and 3 (the transfer for 2 is already excellent and looks oversampled to me) then they will be doing new transfers. Relax.

Mummy 2, with all that mosquito noise (from the screenshots you provided) didn't look like a new scan from high quality film sources. Rather, it looked to me as a blowup, with different colour grading applied.

Let's see what happens with JP2 and JP3.

Those are photos of a screen. There are actual caps in the mummy trilogy thread so I've changed my tune as to it being an upscale, there's no way this is the same old transfer as the BD. Is it the greatest transfer ever? No, it still looks a bit jittery here and there. FAR better than the old BD? God yes.

I always assumed Returns wasn't a new master based on early comments at first release. Just went to look at the thread to look at the caps posted. Already ordered the first one but skipped Returns. Guess I'll go order that next after all haha

I was adamant that it wasn't a new transfer. Others said it was. The others were correct

I'm not as concerned with the video on these except for Jurassic Park, that one concerns me but the other three don't. What I'm sad about is the lack of an Atmos track (at least I'm pretty sure it's not included for these). Talk about a lot of action from above: Rex breaking into the kid's jeep through the roof, Gennaro getting chomped on the can, all the jungle noises, and so many more. Hopefully I'm just wrong and there's Atmos/DTS:X included.

Agreed. I still haven't decided if it's worth buying the collection, or if I should just get the first film. I'll wait for Black Friday on this one.

There are DTS:X logos on the discs.

All this Lost World talk got me curious to give it another chance last night. Passed out before Malcolm's daughter even shows up.
