Early on (and also deep into the competition), Lee was very much a dark horse. Some of us may have liked him more but the front runner was definitely Crystal as far as the general consensus went.

Expect Scotty McCreery to go very far even if you don't feel he should. I read an article that said that during the shows last week the audience was loudest for him. They also mentioned all their Twitter accounts and how many followers each had and McCreery had like 4,000 more followers than any other contestant.

Interesting choices for songs this week what's the theme? Sing a song by an artist the judges are most comparing you to?

Just started watching:

Lauren - She was okay; she's better than that.

Casey - Hated it. I don't care if it's good technically speaking, I don't like his style at all.

Ashton - Not great, but pretty good. Glad they saved her last week.

Paul - Didn't really like it. He's got that 'different' voice, and I didn't work for me this week.

Pia - There we go Not as good as last week, but still loved it.

James - I liked him this week. A very solid job.

Haley - Horrible. Please send her home; she shouldn't have even made it passed the 1st cut in Hollywood Week.

Jacob - I didn't like it. He started off fine at the very beginning, but the same part where the judges said it fell off is where it fell and stayed off for me.
I LOATHED the Chorus. I'm going to have to listen to the real version to remember how that song should sound.

Thia - the beginning was okay. Once it sped up I didn't like it.

Stefano - That was painful. Another who should not still be there.

Karen - A little rough in a few spots, but I liked it overall.

Scotty - I'm not a country guy, but I still like this dude. Great job.

Naima - Bad.

Best:
Pia
Scotty

Worst:
Naima
Haley
Stefano

My bottom three: Naima, Haley and Ashton
My prediction of who's going home tomorrow night: Ashton- I don't understand why she chose that song. Too old-fashioned for her. She should have sang a Beyonce song.

Stefano Langone reminds me of him, not in singing style, but as someone who doesn't have front-runner status but has the talent to catapult him to the top. His wild card song performance alone showed a different side of him I didn't see during the auditions.

I dont care what yall say Lee was not a dark horse last year. Yes Crystal may have been the favorite but thats just one singer. Lee was always one of the best singers and was in the top few from the jump from what I remember. But whatever, that season is done so its on to this much better season with the best talent. My take for tonight:

Lauren Alaina - Good perfromance and she is always atleast good but she needs to push herself.

Casey Abrams - Fantastic! I love this guy and he is a natural star.

Ashton Jones - It wasnt bad but it didnt do anything for me.

Paul McDonald - This is one of the most original and unique singers I have seen and its sumthin about this guy that works for me.

Pia Toscano - She may be the early favorite with that great singing voice and range. Another excellent performance. She is so beautiful also.

James Durbin - I am more impressed with this guy and he is better than Lambert in my book and has more variety also. Very good performance.

Haley Reinhart - Didnt care for the song choice but it was better than last week but still nuthin special.

Jacob Lusk - This is my dude and he blew it up again. Just a superstar in the making.

Thia Megia - Didnt really care for her performance but it wasnt bad.

Stefano Langone - Starting to warm up more to this dude and he gave a solid performance.

Karen Rodriguez
- Weakest performance of the night for me.

Scotty McCreery - Natural country singer and he is great when he sings country songs. It will be interesting to see him sing other genre's.

Naima Adedapo - I actually liked this performance and it was refreshing and risky but paid off for me. Its hard to sing and dance but she did a fine job and loved the changeup.

All in all the talent is so deep that it will be very tough. I had been sayin since before that Scotty is the most popular contestant and now it is showing.

Bottom 3
Haley Reinhart
Karen Rodriguez
Ashton Jones

While Karen had the worst performance to me I have a feeling that Ashton will be the one to go home. Got Em!!

I thought that I had read earlier this year that one of the changes that AI was going to make to this season's show was to eliminate the requirement making contestants sing outside their genre. The thought being that this really hurt Country singers (for example) that were never going to be an R&B recording artist, sing R&B. Instead, they would just have a something a like a "decade" night (50s, 60s, 70s, etc.) and the contestants would pick any song within that decade they wanted, within their preferred genre.

The big picture is to try to get the top performers better prepared to become recording artists within the genre they will be using for the rest of their career. Or I could have just dreamed all the above.....

Oh u may be right and if so thats a plus for me actually. So far I have liked all of the changes so far and pretty much the contestants have had freedom to sing what they want to pretty much. If so then Scotty has a very good shot to go far and maybe even win especially with him being the most popular one already. Got Em!!

I love the new stage this season! Much bigger than previous seasons and the audience all around. The contestants-- especially the ladies-- Ashton, Pia, Thia, Haley and Karen-- looked really good last night-- sometimes, I felt like they're contestants in a Miss USA contest showcasing their singing talent. Very attractive bunch! And JLo looked stunning! I wasn't crazy about some of the arrangements last night especially for the songs Smile, Lately and I Believe I Can Fly although the contestants vocals still shined through, fortunately, despite the arrangements. And really surprised the contestants are already working with top producers as mentors this early in the competition! Talk about pressure. I'm loving the changes AI. Keep it up!

Lauren Alaina - Solid but not great problem with being so young is there isn't enough life experience to truly project the emotion behind the lyrics of the song. They just end up singing it rather than performing it.

Casey Abrams - This was very good top 3 of the night.

Ashton Jones - She's awful was dull, off key and "pitchy" to quote Randy. She should not have been saved.

Paul McDonald - I like him but it was a poor song choice. It started way to soft but improved at the end.

Pia Toscano - I like her she sings well but I can't stand that she's not putting more into her performances and song choices and following the typical idol contestant play book.

James Durbin - Liking him as well showed some good range between last week and this week definitely better than Lambert.

Haley Reinhart - Awful, boring, off-key in a few spots.

Jacob Lusk - He can sing but last night was not his best not sure if it was him or an audio problem but had a hard time picking out lyrics through most of the song.

Thia Megia - First part ok, 2nd part scary. Again too young to really understand the meaning behind a song like Smile. Which was evident in her not even knowing who Charlie Chaplin was.

Stefano Langone - He was not bad definitely the only judge save from last week that showed he deserved it.

Karen Rodriguez - Something off about her performance I didn't even watch all of it. Wondering if she lost her voice a little with the producer warning her not to sing or talk the entire day before her performance.

Scotty McCreery - It was ok just not as big a fan as others are. The singing deep voice country songs is going to get old fast.

Naima Adedapo - It was ok at least she took a chance at mixing it up a little.

I'm wondering if 2 will go home this week since the judges saved 1 more than they were supposed to last week. My guess would be Naima and Ashthon. I think Karen's was worse than Naima but she made it through last week and I think her fans will give her enough votes to beat out the 2 judges saves.

What's up with Ryan Seacrest tonight? He was disorganized in calling out the contestants and naming the bottom three and didn't even get to all of the contestants and we did not get the chance to hear from all of them. He blew it tonight. He's been doing this for many years and it was awkward tonight. And he looked silly mimicking Diddy as Diddy was mentioning the cities of his upcoming tour. And Ashton choosing to sing the same boring song that booted her out to try to save herself? Really bad choice.

Yep, to all of that.

If you're going to sing for your life, don't do the SAME song.

But in reality, there was NO way she was getting saved.

Pia would get saved. Jacob would get saved. Besides that, I don't think they would waste it.

After the Michael Jackson compilation, I want to hear Pia sing Man in the Mirror

I mean I dont know exactly how it works but Im sure Ryan is just reading the names off the card and how they announce things are already setup I would presume so I dont think it was his fault on how the bottom 3 was announced. I think it went down like that based on time as they had just the right amount of time after that with all of the performances, clips etc.....On a sidenote Lambert was actually good tonight and I dug that more mellow song from him. Got Em!!

Well, I didn't expect the judges to use the save this early, but Ashton herself said she should have sang a different song when Ryan asked her about it earlier, and yet chose to sing the SAME song. Oh well, she missed her chance. And she was one of my favorites during the auditions.

Good job on your picks CZAR! I got 2 out of 3 and guessed right on Ashton getting booted as well. I'm sure Ryan had cue cards but it still puzzles me how it all went down. He wasted too much time with his comments to the other contestants that they may have ran out of time to get to the others but it was awkward like the other contestants didn't know how to react.

All that for only one person to go.... I was expecting 3 to get cut.

Seacrest was too funny.... You all made it! (oh wait) except..except...except you. Guy did things like that a few times.

I don't get the hate for Haley, that blue song wasnt great but she has a different voice with lots of range.

It wasn't funny to me the way he did it; it was cruel. And he seemed to be enjoying it, too, which made it worse.

A savvy viewer, or a first-grader with basic counting skills, noticed only 12 singers onstage for the Michael Jackson group medley.

That’s because for the second time this season, Casey Abrams had to be hospitalized. He nearly missed his semifinal chance in late February, and has now bailed on his first chance to unconvincingly lip-synch to the King of Pop. Maybe he had a premonition of how awkward the routine would look and decided he needed a doctor’s care at the thought.

Hoping that whatever is wrong with him is not something that will force him off the show. “Idol” nearly lost Crystal Bowersox to health issues early in the competition a year ago, and she wound up doing OK. So there’s hope
Didn't notice that - my wife and I forwarded to the end.

Hope he's ok. He's in my top 5 for sure.

I hope Casey is alright. I've been voting for him. Also voting for that guy that sang Judas Priest. James? Those are my two favorites. Lauren, Pia, Thia & Scotty are good so I don't expect any of them to go any time soon. Something about Jacob bugs me but I expect he will be around a while as well.
