Agreed. Even on other forums whereby some folks here complain every frame is scruntized on a movie, that hasn't caused a train wreck of a thread like this is.

Unbelievable. Just go ahead and make up one's mind want you want to do. Report back if you did buy it or rent it and let us know how you feel about the quality. If you aren't even going to watch it, well that is fine also.

Simple as that!

One thing is for sure, that Howard Shore score should sound awesome. That may be the best film soundtrack ever.

And going by your location... other planets also

I know this is quite a popular forum and almost every forum attracts members from all over, but AVF has nearly 4x the amount of members than here, 10x the amount of threads and has been established for nearly 10 years now, yet we tend to restrain ourselfs a little more and 'invalid opinions' are usually questioned to the point where people don't bother posting now unless their opinions are valid

Edit: that's not to say there are no negative comments from people who don't own them, but there's certainly less than here

Speaking of the soundtrack, it was released as box sets of "The Complete Recordings" for each film, the most comprehensive I have heard for any movie. There are all kinds of goodies in them (in the "Fellowship" set has Gandalf singing "The Road Goes Ever On and On" at the very beginning of the movie, etc.), including booklets that describe the philosophy behind the music for each scene. Each one of the those 3 CD boxsets costs more than the selling price of the complete TE BD's.

What isn't besides the point is asking why anyone is assuming that HD broadcasts use HD source material. I know for a fact that with all of the HD channels I have, that not everything used by those channels is HD source material. It is like a HD radio station that is capable of broadcasting HD audio, broadcasting a recording from 1940. Technically the signal is HD, but it doesn't magically turn into sounding like a 96khz/24 bit reecording. Where is the proof that these so-called HD broadcasts from 2002 are using an HD transfer of LOTR?

They cost quite a bit...but they do come w/ the dvd of the soundtrack of each flick. All in 5.1.

Expensive..but great.

I wish Star Wars would be released this way.

Ditto - the "big two", Star Wars and LoTR. Also, despite some of the adverse feelings the LoTR TE has generated, it should be a nice shot in the arm for Blu-ray. Some guys that I work with are buying BD players just so they can watch the TE's that are being released next week.

I would have to say the big "3" and include the Indiana Jones movies (the first three anyway). When the DVD boxset came out a few years ago, it was supposed to have come from an HD master of all three movies.
