I've never seen the surge. Someone told me it was because I'm an annual subscriber.

I wonder if they'll ever attempt a surge charge that exceeds the cost of the ticket. For example, one of my theaters has a Tuesday special where every showing all day is only $7 (not counting Wednesday premieres that have Tuesday night openings).

I'm really surprised it lasted as long as it did considering it was always losing a ton of money. also, how much did it affect overal box office numbers? not that box office numbers matter... but how accurate were the totals even?

Ted Farnsworth tried to float the idea that MP was responsible for 62% of AMC's operating income.

The Verge debunked that, the number was actually closer to 4.2%. Barely a blip.

I cancelled. Back to $5 Tuesdays at our local theater, which is cheaper than surge pricing now.

They already are. Someone on Reddit just posted a surge charge for Mamma Mia of $8 and then the Fandango time listing where the ticket is $7.

Today’s a day I’m really glad I’m on an Annual Plan they legally can’t f*ck over.

Farnsworth told attendees at a business conference on Tuesday that they would be selling close to 50% of tickets by the end of the year.

https://deadline.com/2018/07/moviepa...ws-1202434982/

This is after MP shares of most movies are in the 6%-7% range, and Mission Impossible seems like it will match or even best tracking estimates even with the MP block. They simply were not close to being the force they suggested they were (or would become) that could make huge demands on studios or theater chains.

And of course he said this when he knew they were days away from running out of money, but of course that doesn't surprise me given how much he and Lowe lie.

Did $5 surcharge for Teen titans today. Won’t do it if it’s more.

WOW!
LOL what would be the point of MoviePass if peak pricing is $8? Might as well try to go see movies during matinee hours if possible, and use that $9.95 for concession.

It's $6 here. I'll be cancelling before the next billing cycle next week.

It's a bummer for sure, but I can't be too critical of MoviePass. They've been really good to me, and I've saved tons of money.

Reports coming in that most movies are not showing up in the app. Checked mine, and only ones showing up are Unfriended and MI6, which is greyed out.

This is an absolute train wreck.

I caught a 1045 am showing to avoid the surcharge.

I went to a 11:20am showing that didn't have one. But the rest did.

Before you cancel, you and everyone cancelling should change their payment method to a prepaid card with a low balance so they can't continue to "accidentally" charge your bank for months after cancellation. That's what I'll be doing if the $8 surge becomes the norm or if they just collapse into debt next week.

Looks like these boys may be tapped out again.

Everything is greyed out for me, even in theaters with 16+ screens.

Yup, as mentioned this happened to me. And since I looked a couple hours earlier, some new titles (such as Eighth Grade and Hotel Transylvania 3) started disappearing, and this is happening in all theaters except e tickets.

I went to the chat (cause I want to have a record of the issue in case of chargeback or whatever reason, though I really hope they go completely under this week and the case will be very simple) and of course got a canned response about how it was a technical issue they were looking into. I'm pretty sure this is happening because I'm an annual subscriber, and if they can't surcharge me, they are just cutting me off from those showings.

What a disaster. Feel for those in transit for family night, date night, etc.
