As someone who doesn't use BD-Live, I intend to just toss the DVD's aside, throw in the discs from The Fantasia Anthology that contain whatever extras that aren't ported over, and call it a day...

Either way, both films are going to look and sound amazing, and if the trade off is that the extras are on SD instead of HD...well I suppose I can live with that! LOL

I've never seen either one of these films. I've always been interested in seeing the original 1940 "Fantasia". This will probably be a day 1 buy for me.

+1. I ordered it just so I can see what all the excitement is all about. I'm sure my family will enjoy it.

+1, this is what I'd do if I had the anthology, which'll probably come down in price from sellers once the BD is out.

Even if we did get a Blu Disk 5, the extras would've all been in 480 anyway...No loss to keep the old Extras disk.
(Also encyclopedically arranged by film and segment.)

It's a bonus to have the new shorts in 1080 (we can assume), since they weren't on the old disk, and it's not likely that the downloadable versions of the archive material will be, but if they are, that's a plus as well.
(Refresh memory, though--Do we still get "Toot, Whistle, Plunk & Boom" on the F2K Blu? )

Default Yes! Finally!

I've always loved Fantasia and Fantasia 2000. It's a dream come true... But will they come bundled with DVD copies too?

I was heartbroken to learn that Disney has scrapped the Diamond edition containing Fantasia World, but now I see a light in the tunnel. Look at what I found at Amazon.co.uk:

http://www.amazon.co.uk/Fantasia-Blu...3323806&sr=1-1

The UK seems to be releasing Fantasia as a separate Diamond edition and they even have cover art for it. I couldn't find a Fantasia 2000 BD listed on the site, but there is something called "Fantasia/Fantasia 2000 [Blu-ray]" here:

http://www.amazon.co.uk/Fantasia-200...3323876&sr=8-1

So how is the BD Live feature that allows us to view the content from the Legacy collection going to work? Do you access the internet through the Blu-ray disc?

According to the Disney press release, it appears that all of the Legacy Collection bonus features will be on the Fantasia 2000 blu-ray disc, and not BD-Live

Actually, it appears its going to be accessable through BD Live. The "*" and the "o" bullet points used in the press release apparently mean two different things. For instance, the Audio Commentaries heading is listed using the asterisk, but the participants in the commentaries are listed underneath using the "o". Similarly, Disney's Virtual Vault is next to a "*", but underneath is: "o Original DVD Bonus Features from Legacy Collection"

At least that's how I understood it.

I've never seen Fantasia, but I've heard a lot about it. What is it exactly? Short stories put together?

Basically its a series of short films animated to classical music and then compiled into a movie. The range of animation is somewhat large ranging from very abstract to more cartoony fare going as far as the fanciful and dramatic. There is a little bit of everything in this. I will admit though to watch this film all the way through in one sitting is a chore. It may not be that long but it definitely feels it. Playing the different segments individually however can be quite enjoyable though that is just my personal take on it.

Any idea, as to whether Fantasia is being released with the famous "deleted segment" which featured "Claire de Lune" and the "edited" scene..."In the "Pastoral Symphony" segment there was originally a scene showing stereotyped Black assistant centaurs shining the hooves of white centaurs. The chief of these was Sunflower, who had a very stereotypical look: big, red lips and wild messy hair. It was not until the 1969 re-release that this was thought to be objectionable, and all subsequent releases until 1980 had an abrupt cut at this point. Every subsequent release after 1990 includes the scene, but with the section blown up so that it only shows the faces of the white female centaurs."

No, that's pretty much what we previously thought. It only confirms the rumour that the third disc of the Fantasia Anthology will be available as streaming content on BD Live. We could do that...or just watch the discs we've had for 10 years and not fool around waiting for streaming content to load.

Waiting for streaming content to load? the longes i have waited for something via BD live to start has been maybe 30 to 45 seconds.
Havent had to wait long at all perhaps if you are having longer load times, it has to do with your wireless network.

Dont get me wrong I want this stuff to be availble actually on the disc but I am not going to let it bug me to much.

I have a feeling Fantasia world is going to be repurposed into a future theatrical release. since it was rumored to be formerly deleted sequences and new sequences in the first place.

Its entirely possible someone said why are we releasing this as a suppliment when it could very well be released theatrically on its own.

again thats just a big guess on my part. but why else would something so prominately advertised for about a year suddenly be dropped.

Disney execs went to great extremes to delete the racially stereotypcial black centaurette, but it's interesting to note, that on the laserdisc the tail end of the character can be briefly be seen as she is part of group of folk including Bacchaus marching up a hill, the subsequent DVD edition optically zoomed in to eliminate even that very brief scene. Even when you compare the full scenes via Youtube, the optical zooms and replaced/optically flipped replacement animation is quite blatant - the zoomed in scene that nearly takes away a good 70% of the screen, the graininess is quite bad.
