Maybe I'll give the show a shot now because I didn't initially watch it because I figured it wouldn't last.

Perhaps Fox recognizes the difficulty in programming for Friday, and that while Fringe may have fewer viewers, the typical Fringe viewer is a rabid fan. I also wonder (like Boston Legal before it) if the average Fringe fan is more well educated/wealthier.

Regardless. The dance of joy!

There's also the fact that maybe Pilot land isn't going so well for FOX. IE Terra Nova. Or it's a package deal with Alcatraz.

Time to get in on an update!

Press release for Fringe's renewal and it seems like it's a full season pick up

I don't think it's FX's fault; I blame the TV audience for not recognizing a quality show when they see one.

I really hope The Event gets renewed. The ratings are terrible but I really like it, it's very interesting. Hopefully they give it at least another year. Also, will Law and Order Los Angeles be cancelled? That show I couldn't care less about.

It's a decent show. But outside of the storyline about the guy and his girlfriend, the other characters are just not that interesting. But it is getting better recently.

No surprise, CBS has renewed The Amazing Race and Undercover Boss.

'In Treatment' canceled by HBO

Quote:
The award-winning HBO series In Treatment will not return for a fourth series, it has been confirmed.

Despite critical acclaim and a handful of awards for the show's stars, the psychotherapist drama failed to pick up big ratings for the broadcaster.

An HBO spokesperson said: "It's true that we have no plans to continue with In Treatment as previously formatted.

"However, we are in continued conversations with the executive producers to find another way to continue telling these rich stories."

In Treatment picked up a WGA gong in 2009, Dianne West won the 'Supporting Actress' Emmy in 2008, while the show's leading man Gabriel Byrne earned two 'Best Actor' Emmy nods.

The finale of the third season only pulled in 279,000 viewers, a significant fall from the start of the run when it pulled in 446,000.
Not sure if anyone here watches this or not but posted in case there was as I couldn't find a main thread.

Well duh. A 0.0 isn't exactly worth keeping, no matter the network.

I watched every ep as they've aired, and (no offense) I can't believe that, generation after generation, people still watch this kind of stuff.

Procedurals have a huge problem to get over, and that is being fresh each week even though they re-hash everything, each and every week. I can't watch 'em unless the quality is top-notch from beginning to end....or, at least that the show is ground-breaking enough that any mis-steps they make are easily and quickly forgiven and forgotten. There haven't been many; in fact, I can't think of any. I want a cop or medical procedural show that's as good as The Sopranos or Breaking Bad are in their respective "fields" (the mob and drug dealing). Until then? It's the same old tired TV cliches I've seen folks watch my entire life.....from Dr. Kildare to ER, it's all been the same. From Dragnet to Detroit 1-8-7, it's all been pretty "meh".

Detroit 1-8-7 likely won't be back, and I certainly won't miss it.

Oh, and if I dislike most procedurals, why do I watch them? Well, I usually do not. But Detroit 1-8-7 piqued my interest; I'm from the area, and I do like that they try hard each week to integrate local places and things into the show. But, my girlfriend LOVES procedurals. Hell, there's about 100 Law & Order shows she has to "catch up on" on my DVR. She insisted on watching this show each week, and she was a fan....until the horrible season finale. Not even she could stomach that garbage writing. The whole "New York gangster invades Detroit" scenario was just absurd, at best.

It's interesting that they make the comment that they are exploring ways to continue in a different format. The format of this show is what kept me from enjoying it initially. It seemed like a great idea - well written, well acted - but I can't commit to any show that's on multiple days a week.
If somehow they found a way to make it a 60 minute or 90 minute weekly affair, I think it'd be more viable - problem is I don't think they are likely to capture new viewers at this point.

Must admit, that kinda made me go huh?

As for The Sopranos, I felt it began to slide after the S3 and those extended hiatuses in between later ones became annoying.

The well has pretty much ran dry on both the CSI/L&0 series think they all will be gone by 2012. But NCIS appears to be still going strong.

L&O SVU and the original CSI still get great ratings, I don't see them leaving by 2012. I could especially see a show like CSI lasting quite a while because it has the ability to replace any cast member, whereas it would be tougher for SVU to replace it's 2 leads. In addition both SVU and CSI are produced by their networks so the more episodes that are produced the more valuable the show is in syndication.

Yeah I don't see CSI: NY or CSI: Miami lasting till 2012 but the orginal CSI is still going strong and won't be leaving anytime soon.

Not sure about L&O as I don't watch those or follow them ratings wise.

Heard that Marg Helgenburger is leaving at the end of this season, will they replace her with a new character?

Like they did when Petersen left.

I stopped watching after Grissom (Peterson) left so I haven't been following the news to closely but I would assume that her character will be replaced by a new character.
